Who started the rumor of the matte nickels in the L&C sets? Poll: Did you believe it?

No where in the Mint literature does it say anything about it, nor on the web site.

People who have gotten theirs confirm the nickels are business strikes.

I ordered 1 set, but would have ordered many more if they had a matte nickel.

I expected matte from the first mention of a C&C set.

    Too bad they are not.

This poll would have been interesting before the sets were actually delivered. image

There was some speculation earlier that the Mint did not mention the matte finish when they sold the 1994 and 1997 nickels. I can't say one way or the other, since I did not purchase either one. However, I did purchase the 1998 matte finish Kennedy half specifically because the Mint did say it was going to be matte finish. image

I didn't care one way or the other, so I didn't expect anything. I'm just an oldnewbie blissfully buying one of everything the Mint has to offer.image

From the postings, the Jeffs and SACs seem to have been handled in a special way and are not all banged up.

  • I thought they would be business strikes after reading the description of the set on the US Mint web site. That is because they didn't mention any special finish or minting process.

I knew there was no special finish associated with this program. However, I must say that I spoke with the people in charge of its development and asked if they were specially finished coins. The literature does not address it as the coins are normal uncirculated coins.
