question on grade and cameo designation

I have two coins I know were struck by the same die. One is graded pf68 the other pf67cam. and there is another in pf66dcam. I thought cameo coins were the first struck coins in the 60's cents and since the dies were newer the coins would have a higher grade. If there are pf66deep cam. coins and pf68 coins from the same dies this can not be true. Can someone please explain? Joe

There's lots of variables that affect the coin from the time it ejects from the press and gets to you, mostly in the handling it receives during the set assembly process and the storage method during the last 40 years can also affect the grade.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.
  • O.K. I was just thinking of the quality of strike, not banging around after it was struck for grade.

The same set of dies can produce DCAM, CAM and brilliant coins. The longer the pair is in service, the less cameo contrast it would produce.
