The idea that the coin hobby is growing is pure fiction. The number of SERIOUS collectors is declining and will continue to decline for the forseeable future. The erosion of interest in SERIOUS collecting is very gradual.

While it is OT I have to add my thoughts about corporate management. Any employee who thinks that corporate management is their friend is a fool. In today's corporate world employees are nothing more than expendable labor units.

Uh huh, and just exactly what do you think would happen if all these evil corporations decided to do everyone a big favor and close their doors, thus releasing all these poor, exploited employees from their corporate bondage? Yeah, they're evil alright, so evil they are the only thing keeping millions of people from fighting for the remaining bones of road kill.

I'll leave this topic alone before we get the thread locked, but would be happy to pursue it on the open forum if anyone cares to continue.

If you define serious collectors as those who spend large amounts of money on coins each year
then it is possible that the numbers are still decreasing. But if you define it as those who are avidly
pursuing one coin collection or another then these numbers are definitely growing rapidly. Many of
the new and returning collectors are not yet spending great deals of money because they don't yet
feel confident to do so. But many of them have been at it for several years now and are becoming
    more confident.

  • Hi catch22. Thank you for your comments. You said; "Uh huh, and just exactly what do you think would happen if all these evil corporations decided to do everyone a big favor and close their doors, thus releasing all these poor, exploited employees from their corporate bondage" Such an action would be an abuse of executive power within the corporate structure. The "corporations doors" do NOT belong to the executive class to open and close at their whim. The corporation's doors belong to the shareholders. Second (and closer to our discussion) your scenario would never happen because the corporate piggy bank would then no longer be available for the elitists to plunder.

A better solution would be to pass law or legislation that would make it illegal for the executive class to conduct mass firings and layoffs of the working class without FIRST dramatically reducing their own compensation packages (i.e. salaries, options, golden parachutes, free life insurance, limos, and other elitist perks). When the CEO reduces his own multi million dollar compensation package to far less draconian levels, THEN and only then may he have the authority to call for mass firings and layoffs of the working class within. Even then, any accrued profits resulting from any mass firings should either be paid to the shareholders as a special dividend (not to the executive class) OR set up in a private trust fund to be used for the benefit of those unemployed as a result of the firings (i.e. serious retraining programs, pre-paid health insurance benefits, counseling, etc). What’s good for the goose is good for the goosed (so to speak). Thank you again for your input catch22. I appreciate your thoughts. matteproof image

  • I don't believe these are from serious collectors! It seems that the same key dates, ie: 09-S VDB's, have recycled themselves so many times that the insert is backwards! If you have money to burn making more money, this venue is just another source![1963 PR70 DCAM ring a bell!]

  • I think it is a great thing for those who want to buy! It would be a sad day for all of us if suddenly no coins were for sale. Think about it!image
