CC Morgan Mint Marks - Some Counsel Please

Here are two CC mintmarks of dollars I purchased.

Is anything wrong with either of these?, or is it me just not knowing how the mintmark evolved over the years?

Any help will be appreciated.

There are 5 different CC mintmarks, 4 of which were used in 1878.
The 4 are actually single small C's punched into the die twice with a close spacing, med spacing, wide spacing & a very wide spacing and the 5th is an actual CC punch with large letters used in 79-93.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.
  • the 1880 CC with the 8 over low 7 variety has a tiny dot in each of the CC's like this:

Jason, that looks more like a 80/79 from what the scans show.
What is money, in reality, but dirty pieces of paper and metal upon which privilege is stamped?
  • I checked and it is not 80/79.

It was holdered in a 8/7 PCGS holder.
  • DUH.....yer right...I missed the peg at the bottom of the 8. I should know better, I just sold one...image

I don't care what the PCGS label says (I don't trust them to do more than the simplest attributions, seen too many errors.) but I agree with Razor, from the scan shown it does kind of look like it is 80/79. I see what looks like traces of the 9 on the inside of the 0 on the right side.

the coin in hand shows the clear dash under the second 8 and part of the 7 shows up inside the 8, just like VAM 6 is described.

There is nothing inside the zero (or anything remotely close) that would make me think it is the 80/79. The 80/79 vam picture that I have clearly shows the 9 inside the zero and this coin does not show anything inside the zero.
  • Frank...just happened to get the VAM book for Christmas...and your mint marks are just fine for the dates...

I agree that both mintmarks are okay... what do the coins look like?
