What kind of microscope is (was) it?

It is an XT-202 Stereomicroscope it was purchased specifically for coins. It has a light above the coin, as well as a light below for other uses. It does 20X and 40X.

No it is a mechanical stereoscope. I held my digital camera over the eyepiece to take the photo.

Been looking for a really good 'scope, and had been looking at the DigitalBlue QX3+. . . Wound up purchasing one today for about $46. Hope I'm not disappointed. Pete

WOW! That micrscope works great! I am really new at collecting coins and am not familiar with all of the "COIN TALK". I noticed you mentioned RPM. What does RPM mean?

Here is a little information for you.

RPM is RePunched Mintmark.

An RPM occours when a mint employee stamps the same letter stamp more than once.

OMM is Over MintMark.

AN OMM occours when a mint employee stamps a different letter stamp over a mint mark that is already there. Like an S over a D, or an O over CC, etc.

Today the mint has placed the mintmarks on the working hubs, so these do not occour starting in the late 1990s, but before that there are many!
