<< <i>Put up-Shut up- but whatever you do-Stay out of my way! I'm through answering questions!!! >>
Don't most truly successful charity drives begin with those very words? I bet UNICEF is looking to adopt the same language in their pitch right now. Man, hearing that just makes me want to give and give.
<< <i>
<< <i>And exactly what language would that be? I have worked my tail off for this cause. I have withstood evert type of attempted character assassination and hurtful slanderous remarks. I have made publice EVERYTHING!!! If you have questions, ask me like a man ! Do not sit here trying to instigate more trouble. All you need do is look at Names and item #'s...ask THEM a few questions! It would seem that you would have better things to do than to try to start stuff with me about this charity-neither of which you obviously know the least thing about! I have said wht I mean and mean what I say...in the end you will look like a complete fool and all this needless banter will have been a waste of time >>
<< <i>all the fine folks with whom we are affiliated at PCGS! Thank you and Happy Holidays from pittbreeder, the ANA, PCGS and the entire Numismatic Community! >>
This could be very misleading. It almost like saying -- "well, I talked to Bob at Church today and he gave me $5.00 for my charity, so I guess the Pope/Vatican endorses my charity." Most companies and organizations take the use of their name very seriously and try to protect it from being infringed upon.
Michael
<< <i>Boom -- my only suggestion is that you should watch the use of the ANA and PCGS as actual sponsors or those that are providing an endorsement of this supposed charity auction. That is of course unless the ANA and PCGS have provided written and/or oral confirmation of such directly to you. >>
Michael, I have this strange feeling that PCGS and the ANA have been notified
This is the first year the Boom Foundation is operational so they are still working on the process.
For $25 the Boom Foundation will send you a bag of coins, probably worth about $10. After his expenses, he will donate 100% of his profits (after eBay and PayPal fees) to a charity of his choice, and deduct his donation off his income taxes.
Of course you could donate $25 to a charity of your choice and take a tax deduction, but if you went this route the Boom Foundation wouldn't be able to sell coins.
A $25 donation to a charity of your choice, or buy coins from the Boom Foundation. A hard decision indeed.

Done.
<< <i>They indeed have been notified that they are included in this charity. >>
That's not quite what I was saying. You need to have permission first. What if I started selling bags of coins on Ebay and said I was affliated with Boom Foundation, but instead of giving the money to a charity that you approved of, I gave it to the Church of Satan.
See the problem.
Michael
<< <i>What if I started selling bags of coins on Ebay and said I was affliated with Boom Foundation >>
This is not meant to stir up *&^$^$$#, I'm just trying to understand how a person comes here to attempt to do a good thing, and gets stomped on by several members. Did I miss something?
1. new ebay ID
2. new to the forum
3. only 'contribution' here is to spam his charity
4. solicits coins for his charity
5. then solicits bids for his charity
6. name drops worse than KD
7. claims dubious affiliations
8. lashes out with name calling
9. after fees and 'costs' very little is going to a 'charity'
10. it smells to me
Massscrew, how do you feel about your name being thrown about for his cause. I for one like to give in private.

Exactly my thoughts! May I suggest donations be given to a real charity of your choice instead of taking a chance on the unknown? mike
<< <i>
Nobody knows much about this charity because no details have been forthcoming. I've donated money through three different individuals on these forums without reservations. This one I'll pass on.
<< <i>Massscrew, how do you feel about your name being thrown about for his cause. I for one like to give in private. >>
I personally do not mind. But, your point is well taken. Although I agree with some of the points here; I also do not smell a scam. Maybe I am not as paranoid as I should be, or I have not been taken for enough rides
Thank goodness for that!
I'm sorry, Boom, I can't help you. First, I don't know you, but that in itself is not a deterrent. The fact that you won't let me know you is discouraging. I can take a lot of attitude, but in this thread it seems quite unwarranted. If you can't display the competence to control your own thread, to keep it on track and disprove false allegations against you without giving rise to new ones.. why on earth should I trust you to have the competence to manage a charitible foundation, to have the fiscal responsibility that comes with that??
I don't see why PCGS allows this on their servers. IF they are endorsing you they need to make it apparent before legal questions cause problems.
My wantlist & references
One thing for sure..YOU WILL GET YOUR MONEY'S WORTH! The proceeds derived from the sale of these bags will be given to Charity in the names of the Numismatic community at large(YOU) ..THE BUYERS, our fellow ANA members and all the fine folks with whom we are affiliated at PCGS!
I think if I were ANA or PCGS I'd be concerned about my advertised endorsement of the Boom Foundation.
I don't think the Boom Foundation is a fraud (though he may have a daugther named Charity) , it's lameness does seem to have a PR problem here and other places (See the Boom Foundation's Registry Spam)
So Boom, if it's true that I'll "Get My Money's Worth" and I send you $30 and receive $25 worth of coins that doesn't leave much to Charity.
So just what is the breakdown of my $30 donation to Charity?
Where does the money go, Boom? What percentage of my donation goes to Charity?

Ye Gods Boom, this is no way to convince people of your commitment to what you are trying to do. PLease, before you respond to another question, THINK about what it is you are trying to accomplish, and the forum in which you are trying to accomplish it.....You have to expect that people will have questions......
<< <i>So Boom, if it's true that I'll "Get My Money's Worth" and I send you $30 and receive $25 worth of coins that doesn't leave much to Charity. >>
The gist of it is this: We, or Whomever (I have), has donated coins to Boom has done their part in this charity. Boom, takes these donated coins, puts them in bags and posts them for sale on Ebay. If anyone chooses to participate, the choice is yours to donate coins, or to purchase a $25.00 bag of coins from Ebay, or both. Boom, has already stated several times that most of the coins so far came from his personal collection. The only thing not given toward the charity is PayPal fees.
<< <i>I'm sorry, Boom, I can't help you. First, I don't know you, but that in itself is not a deterrent. The fact that you won't let me know you is discouraging. I can take a lot of attitude, but in this thread it seems quite unwarranted. >>
Actually, Boom identified himself at the very beginning of this charity to include name and address to which I sent coins, and he received them. As far as Boom's attitude being unwarranted; Boom has been getting attacked for weeks. How would you respond? Where all this went wrong I have no idea. But, this has obviously gone to far with all the suspicion and paranoia that it will most likely, and unfortunately fail. Too bad, and I digress. I feel good with my donation, and I guess that's what matters. Bash on......
So you are saying that the Boom Foundation is operating using the same guidelines as Airplanenut's charity auction.
The 16-year-old has raised over $2000 (split for 2 charities he has identified).
The Boom Foundation with 43 years of collecting experience rased $150 (destined for parts unknown) and has been repeatedily attacked.
It would seem them that the Boom Foundation needs a better PR agent, with a clear message.
I bet Roger RedCents is available

<< <i>What's your IRS charitable orginazation number? >>
The Boom Foundation is not a 501(c) Tax Exempt Charity. It's just Boom selling coins on eBay.

<< <i>So you are saying that the Boom Foundation is operating using the same guidelines as Airplanenut's charity auction. >>
No, that is not what I said. This is what I said:
<< <i>For example, I have seen other auctions/charities -Airplanenut's auction which I am participating in comes to mind - conducted here without such an attack >>
I was merely using that particular current auction as an example. It's never been attacked, and that's great. I am glad that it is so successful. I wasn't asking why that particular auction was not being attacked, but why is Boom's charity being attacked? That is what I was asking. I have yet to receive an answer other than Boom is new to the forum and Ebay.
I was unaware you needed a # to do something for a charitable cause. It comes from the heart and I applaude you...BOOM. If this were based on a macro-charitable concern, I could see the vacuum(IRS) needing to get their moldy paws on some of the action; however, I recognize this particular charity drive as being on the micro level; therefore, not in need of a IRS #. Now, if you want to contribute, do as such, if you don't...DON'T. Around this time of year, the fellowship for which I'm affiliated(a non-profit orginization) gathers monies, sends a group of kind, hard-working folk, to seek toys from the dept. stores throughout the area. I/We've NEVER had to obtain a IRS authorization to do a KIND HEARTED deed for the unfortunate(children)...
Welp, ask yourself this..Am I delving into this just a weeeeeeeee bit TOO MUCH? For cripes sake, the guy's trying to do something nice and folks around here are frying him...
<< <i>...said I was affliated with Boom Foundation, but instead of giving the money to a charity that you approved of, I gave it to the Church of Satan. >>
Perhaps Frattlaw is on to something here....

While I have no knowledge of who he is collecting for, he seems to be a decent fellow, trying to help someone, we just don't know who. My example was to illustrate that ANA and/or PCGS might not want their names connected to this drive.
Michael
Boom, sorry for the doubt. My advice for you, sincerely: find a more suitable environment. That or adjust the campaign plan. Apparently this place isn't working out too well at the current pitch. Maybe relocate to another forum, conduct business here via PM, or take the time to patiently explain your cause as many times as needed (I'd recommend a brief summary in your sig line). Whatever you do, arguing openly doesn't seem to be very productive. Try cultivating more pleased clients like massscrew and your job won't be so hard.

I'm sure he's really a great guy. He just has a way with words to warm our hearts.
This thread is the first time I've heard of Boom's charity auction.
I'm not impressed.
When Darktone asked if it was legit a simple "yes" would have been fine.
