what would be in my best interest for my CC Morgan collection...

Keep my 80-CC 8/7 rev. 78 PCGS or the 80/79 CC rev.78 PCGS- GSA, and just hold on to one of them, as I've decided to make a feeble attempt to attain the CC series collection by the end of the upcoming year. I do know that the PCGS registry for CCs doesn't recognize these types. Your opinion is appreciated...image

Personally, I would keep the GSA, but I would probably do everything I could to keep both.image

    Razorface:

My advice is to keep the 1880-CC 8/7 reverse of '78. That's the toughest of all the 1880-CC varieties by far. (The 1880/79-CC r78 is easy.)

If you decide not to keep it, I'd be glad to refer you to a collector who is buying all of them he can get.

To sell 'em to me at face value.

No, wait. That isn't your best interest, it's MY best interest.

    Ah, well. Whatever.

If you are going to set up a registry set, make sure it will accept your coin first. Some of the variations will not be accepted into the set. The first 4 numbers, preceeding the decimal in the coin number has to be identical to the coins required, otherwise it won't be accepted into your set. I know this because I tried it. I ended up selling my variations and buying business strikes that are accepted. Try entering them into the set, and then make a decision.
I agree with Dennis though, if you can afford to keep it, keep it as it is the hardest to find.

What! We are now letting the registry dictate what coins we should even own! You like your coin and it entends the theme of the collection you are building. But the registry doesn't accept it. Do we keep the coin as an addition to he collection? NO, the Registry dosen't accept it so we MUST dispose of it and buy something the Registry does like. Heaven forbid we should own coins that the registry does not approve of. Who owns this collection, you or PCGS??

Gimme a C, gimme an O, gimme an N, gimme ah D, gimme another O, gimme an R...whattya got.....CONDORRRRRRRRRR! I agree with ya bro! If I sounded as if I were letting PCGS dictate the degree of my CC collection...MY ERROR! As what was stated to initiate this thread, I'm really looking to hold on to just one, for it isn't cost effective; wherein, I wish to accrue all the CCs by 2005. LONNNNNNG SHOT yet possible!...image

    Conder,
I don't see it as them dictating what coins you should own. It's like buying a car. If you want a certain option, and the manufacturer doesn't offer it you do without, or add on an aftermarket. You can still have the variations in your collection, just not in your registry set. I sold some of my more common variations, kept the hard to finds and am building my registry set, they just can't be included. Your collection is your own choice of coins. As for the registry, it's their game, their choice and we have to follow the rules to play.image
