christmas coin exchange now:'white elephant' coin/medal gift exchange-sign up for the big swap

I get very sentimental around this time of year, what with gift giving and all. Is it true that at this time of year some of our more senior members like Aethelred or Cosmic or Ajaan really give out gift coins? I would say that is well within the range of their observed generosity... the idea of it is enough to warm my heart. image

If there is a coin that a particular forum member needs for his one from every country and I have some to spare, I'll be glad to send it to them in exchange for a country coin I might need. Feel free to PM me with lists.

Maybe a 'white elephant' coin/medal gift exchange would be in order.

    1) All entrants will be randomly assigned another member's name to send a coin/medal (any coin/medal worth at least something - no range requirement) to.

    2) Coins to be sent by a certain date (Dec 19?).

    3) After all have received their coins, we'll all post what we got and state whether we are open to trade or not (Jan 3?).

    4) Those willing to trade will negotiate via PM to get their coins traded for those they would prefer.

Just a thought. Please post any other ideas.

I could go for that. You willing to organize it? I suggest we set a price/value range.

Ajaan-senior only in terms of post count, forum experience, etc. And, of course, in mushroom years image

We might have value exchange increments: up to $5, up to $10, up to $20, higher?

This could be a lot of fun, especially if everyone signs up!image

$20 sounds good. I think we need a cutoff for signing up so we can assign addresses for the swap. Trozau's outline seems good for the rest.

Last year we posted a thread and everyone would send something to the person who posted after them. The last person sent something to the person who started the thread. I think we should make the end date about Dec 10-12 so there is time to get to the PO and expect the coin to arrive by Christmas.

    example:

    Ajaan starts thread
    Spinaker posts
    Mongoose posts
    Wybrit posts
    Python posts
    Rhound posts
    Aethelred posts

Ajaan would send something to Spinaker, Spinaker would send soemthing to Mongoose, Mongoose to Wybrit et cetera. Aethelred, as the last poster would then send something to Ajaan. It seemed to work well.

I was waiting for additional responses and they seem to be here-very good! $20 dollars is a nice number; are you saying that only coins with a Krause or market value of $20 are to be used? If so,fine, but how about two $10 coins? Is it one coin only? Simplicity is to be desired. I can take all the entries, put them into a hat and then follow Trozau's suggestions about pairing them up. What else do you want me to do at this point?
