Picutres of the 1878 7TF Morgan proof I won, need help indentifying the "slab"**Updated wi

I was suprised to see the "slab" that my Morgan proof came in. If anyone has conder's slab book handy (mine is at home) please see if it is listed. Nice piece of history.

From Conder's book I found the slab. It is FCS (Federal Certification Service). Anyone have any of these slabs? They guarantee double your money back for authenticity. Gee I wonder if they are still in buisness? image

    jbsteven,

I checked the index and flipped through the book and could find nothing regarding Superior Galleries "slabs". I admit I haven't updated this book since it was published, nor did I actually look at every picture in it (looking for Superior Galleries).

BTW, what the heck is that "inscription" in the field in front of Lady Liberty? Looks like that might be the only "slab" this one will go in. image

is that the Marriage Coin or something like that that was on eBay?

What is the PR 64/64? Both sides graded?

I don't think it is a Superior slab and yes it was the one through Ebay from Superior about a week ago.

I would say it is accurately graded at PR64. It has a few small hairlines on it.

the Superior Galleries is a sticker on the reverse from the auction. It is not part of the "slab"

I'm sure it grades 64...good lookin coin. I meant why the "/"? were both sides graded?

My slab book is at home I'll check tonight. Don't look under "superior" because that is their sticker - not their slab.

Grading both sides of the coin was common practice among most of the services from 1972 untill PCGS decided to squeeze it into one number when they started in 1986. They weren't the only one doing it, but the success of their slab lead to the changeover.
