Are you a coin doctor if you take a AU50 PCGS bodybagged for cleaning coin and carry it in your pocket until it wears down to a problem free PCGS gradable XF45?

Placid... You have the fastest keyboard on these message boards.image

I figure most coins naturally wear this way. It's like putting coins in a Wayte Raymond album in hopes that they might tone.

You dont have to wear it down to XF just handle it everyday for about 6 months. Make sure your hands are sweaty and maybe even a little dirty from doing the yard work!!

Nope - you have effectively decreased the value of the coin which is the opposite of what the Dr's hope for

I don't have any certain coin in mind. Somebody mentioned this theory in the "pocket wear' coin thread on these boards.
I think it is an excellent idea for certain bodybagged for cleaning coins.

I agree with the others....that isn't doctoring and I think that is actually something smart...you are reversing the cleaning in a natural way...no unnatural chemical baths, not whizzing, etc......actually, a cool idea if you need it slabbed for some reason and the lesser grade is fine with you.

Hmmm...would a slabbed, worn (old-cleaned & bodybagged) XF coin, be worth more a coin that was bodybagged for cleaning even as AU?

and more importantly, should it be?

    depends...

But would the protected areas near the devices still show signs of cleaning?image I thought that only worked for scratches and such.
The strangest things seem suddenly routine.
