Shiny edged quarters.

Just a couple years ago when you pulled all the quarters out of a roll that
had a shiny edge there would be some of the old eagle reverse coins. Today
these are getting decidedly uncommon. When they are seen they are almost
always a 1996 or a 1998. In fact the early states issues are getting a little
tough to find in lightly worn condition with shiny edges.

Finding nice well struck eagle reverse quarters with only a trace of wear has
become problematical. Issues before 1982 are rarely seen above XF when
well made. Pre-1974 coins are rarely encountered above VF and in 6 years of
checking rolls from the bank I've yet to find nice examples of the '68-D,'69, and
'70 coins even above Fine condition.

Nearly half of these older dates have been destroyed over time and the vast
majority of the remainder are evenly worn to a very similar amount.

None of regular issues has become difficult to find yet so the primary thing sep-
arating the quality of the many circ sets being formed will be attractiveness of
the coins. Grade variations will be relatively minor since most of these coins are
excessively rare in circ grades higher than what's left in circulation.
