When you get your confirmation E-mail from PCGS, Should you be able to see the status?

I put the number in the submission area, it asks me for my zip code, then tells me there is no info available...What should I do?

I assumed (First mistake) that once I received the E-mail saying they had received my submission, I would be able to follow the coins through the grading process.

There is sometimes a short lag between the two. Even when it is up, all it will say is "Your shipment was received on xx/xx/2003. Further processing is pending." You'll get to look at that for a couple months.

If you see the status that means the grading process has begun. The email is just to let you know it has been received.I'll bet yours was an economy submission.

Actually, all it means is that the coins have been received. There are multiple stages in the process, with the most lengthy of these being the "sitting on a shelf somewhere" stage. There is no indication during the wait as to what stage the coins are in. The message remains the same throughout until the results are posted.

  • It was an economy submission. I'm really in no hurry and understand that there is a backlog.

I think the "submission status" could be used for educational as well as informational purposes... Probably lack of staff to enter the data.

I submitted 14 raw platinum proof DCAM's different years and denominations...... If anyone is listening, I'm looking for some 70's :-)

    Dan,

That would be a "modern" submission, not economy. Modern submissions get done much more quickly.

I guess I'm still so new I don't know the lingo!

That was one recommendation I made to PCGS when an open inquiry was made as to ideas. I thought having the status give detailed tracking (like a UPS tracking) of each stage would be the best way. That way you can see if it's graded but not in sealing, in sealing, graded by 1 or 2 people, etc.

When your grades are ready, you will get another email that reads:

<< <i>Your submission grades have been finalized. You can see them by clicking on the link below. >>

You will then get yet another email when they ship your coins:

<< <i>SHIPMENT NOTIFICATION - Your PCGS grading order shipped on X/Y/2003 11:20:10 AM.
It shipped via USPS with Tracking Number: 123456789. >>

PCGS Currency: HOF 2013, Best Low Ball Set 2009-2014, 2016, 2018. Appreciation Award 2015, Best Showcase 2018, Numerous others.
