Coin board of toners sent by GSAGUY

Some of you may remember seeing this set of toned coins put up by TBT last week.. Well I kinda liked it, so I got one of the holders from GSAGUY along with the textile toner I showed earlier and here is my attempt at the set. The pictures aren't the greatest, but you get the gist of it. When I get my computer back I'll make a better effort at some nicer pictures.

Here's the holder with all the coins:

And the coins individually:

Although hard to see on the pic - the polychromatic does have gold, purple, red, orange and of course a little white.

The target toned one is a stretch in my opinion - it does have a solid ring of irridescent blue surrounding a center consisting of a mottled grey/blue - oh well - we can't have it all can we? image

Hope you enjoyed that image

    Neat set.

Now I'll have to use the term "Polychromatic " in one of my auctions.

SWEET! Some of the nicest colors out there.

That's a cool way to display these beauties.

  • Thanks for sharing. I really like the toning on the bank-wrapped roll morgan. Once again thanks for sharing those awesome coins. image

Hey that looks great. Where do they get the Capital holders from? I'd like to do a set like that.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.
  • That is way cool!

    Frank,

That is a cool set. And at shows and such you'll find it's so much easier to describe the different types and patterns of toning to other collectors...and even to some dealers when you've got the coins right there.

    I hope you enjoy it.

Out of the eight coins, I believe you can improve on the poly and the target. All the others look great and appear to be well matched for both color quality and grade. I especially like the end roll toned piece, and of course, that textile piece.imageimage

    Good work.

  • Awesome set Frank and it was really cool to see one of my coins take up residence with such lovely neighbors.

Yeah, but where is the hole for monochromatic textile toned? image

One thing that I failed to mention in my earlier post is that when others are looking at your coins in one of these boards, the discussion rarely turns to the grade of individual pieces. I like that as I think we spend too much time worrying about the coin's grade and not admiring its beauty. Just MHO.

  • Frank,
The 1881 that is your "end roll toning" coin...didn't you show me that at Pelham last week? That coin SCREAMS in your hand!

Cool coins! And a great presentation too!

I wholeheartedly agree. As I was putting the coins into the board I was so consumed into making sure that the coins weren't damaged in any way (I banished the family from the family room while I undertook this process) that it wasn't until later when my wife picked up the set and showed it to me from a distance that I was able to truly appreciate the beauty of all the coins together. The way the light hits these coins they look like a neon sign flashing every color of the spectrum as the light hits them. I will seek to upgrade a couple of these coins as Bryan suggested, but the fact that they blend so well together made the process of putting these coins together very rewarding! Thanks for all the kind words - I promise better pictures sometime in the future!

  • Way cool! Thanks for sharing. That is a great end roll wrapped example. I'd love to look at that set every

    day.

Very, very nice set. Everything from Lincolns to commem gold looks better as sets in lucite holders.... Maybe NGC will start "banding" sets with the all important grades imprinted on a gold ribbon...GSA dollars are a start!

If you have not seen his personal collection, be careful. It will be a turning point for you.

I'm with Dog, I'd love to do a set like that with Peaces, where do you get the Capitol Plastics holder?

Oh, yeah, very nice set as well as coins. But I guess you already knew that.

For those of you wishing to purchase one of these boards, just drop me a PM and I'll give you the details. I actually had two styles made by two different companies.

Edited to add: Frattlaw, now that's an undertaking!!!....putting together such a board with Peace Dollars.image

  • Once again, my inferiority complex of my "paigow_johnny's collection of crappy Morgans" creeps in. Very nice set !!!
