1932-D Washington back from ANACS!

I just got this back today from ANACS. The original thread is here!!!!!!!!!!!

It came back as an AU55!!!!!!!!!!!

This coin has so much detail for a 1932-D quarter and the natural toning highlights it even more. What do you all think???

  • Congratulations Tony! A great coin. Man, an awful lot of Members just totally BLEW their assessment of that coin. Cam40 was first to post and he had it dead on. No one else was close and a bunch of people called it fake and counterfeit.

I guess it DID check out fine.Thats a relief.
I just got lucky on that guess.
The coloration does made it look odd doesnt it.
  • I'm beginning to see a trend in the accuracy of the forum as a whole in these "Guess the grade" threads, as well as the "Is it a fake threads." Even several of the so-called experts missed this one badly. Prepare for the onslaught of "Sure it slabbed at ANACS, but..." and "Well, it's hard to tell from a picture" posts.

    Whatever. Its a GREAT coin!

    Nice find Tony!

I just read thru the original post and congrats also to cam40 to having a good eye. Someone even said they would bet the farm that it wasn't better than a 45. I am most impressed that you can assign a liitle bit of history to the coin. To me, that makes any coin that much more special.

Yep. Lots of caution here on these kinds of threads. The issue apparently was the great detail, and the debate was between early die state or fake. In reading the thread, people were split, thoughtful and helpful. You took it all in graciously, Big Tony, and won with a good service that got the close-up look. Terrific find and terrific results. Congratulations!!
  • What probably happened was the dark toning brought out the worn parts making it look like it had to much detail or it didnt look right. But wether we were right or wrong it is great it turned out real.

Congratulation, and a double high-five for not dipping it. It is a very nice coin, and I'm glad to see it got an appropriate holder.

  • C'mon fellas!! Tony makes a great coin like this, even after receiving so many negative responses, and you are going to let the thread just slip off of the first page. Can't do it. Let's give him the congrats he deserves! image

I'm very happy for you and your aunt! I'm also happy that it came back AU since I was one of those who thought it was nicer than EF. Of course, I also had serious reservations as to its authenticity and I think it likely they were there because of the odd way the obverse details stood out over the field, courtesy of the toning. Good work.

  • I must say I really love the hair detail. It's quite uncommon to find a silver Washington with that much detail.

Thanks you all! I love the way we can all disagree ,agree and be civil. I feel I am getting a good eye for grading coins. I have been off only a few points with the exception of a few Buffalo nickels. Thanks again.

Well whatever you lack in grading skill you surely make up for it in cherrypicking ability.
Your a cherrypicking madman.I know its some luck but you sure can spot em.

Again,Nice make on the Key George.image

I didn't catch the original thread, and I am by no means a Washington Quarter guy. But it does look like a lot of people were overly harsh on this coin. If I recall correctly, there were about a half million minted, which means more than one die would have to been used. Also, I have seen this type of toning before, and it makes pictures look weird.

In any event, congratulations Tony, that looks like a nice unmolested key date Washington.
