1854 Type 1 Gold Dollar (Grade Revealed)

Picked this up today at a not so local coin shop. Please Give your Opinions as to Grade, I will post the NGC grade later

MrKelso, it's kind of hard to tell a grade by the picture but if I go by the luster breaks on the obverse I would guess AU58? mike

I can't grade gold but i'll say AU-58

I will concur with the group so far, and say AU-58. But a lot of that is based on the angle of the photo and the flaws seen.

Gold's always tricky in that an MS coin can appear AU-58, and vice-versa if the photo's just so. And don't get me started on the incuse Indians!

No idea how NGC grades gold.These are tiny little coins.A friend of mine inherited one (1853).I told him it looked very uncirculated to me..A little better than this one sorry to say.

.Despite what looks like hairline scratches on the obverse,I,ll guess NGC gave it an MS....63 ?
Otherwise ,techniclly it may be an AU.

AU-58. It has some dirt in the letters which tells me it was probably in circulation for a little while.
