Ike dollars..72..76..78

I just found these in one of my boxes(I'm not very organized). The 72 has D m.m. the 76 and the 78 have none.I understand there are 2 different varieties for the 1976.My question is ,"how do you tell the difference"?

If you have the red book, look in there. They have good pictures and descriptions and it is very easy to tell.

i always look at the reverse lettering and focus on the second letter "S" in states and the letter "R" in dollar. on Type 1 coins, the bottom of the "S" comes up to the middle of the preceeding "E" and the leg in the letter "R" is straight. on Type 2 coins, the bottom of the "S" is much shorter and the "R" is curved. overall, the lettering on Type 1's is much thicker. it's easy to distinguish once you see coins of each type side-by-side.
