Great night on ebay

Just for giggles, I started my last 25 auctions at one buck.

Results?
Profit on each and every sale... and - all taken by one (very determined) bidder.

I'm sold. No matter what I'm selling from now on - it starts at $1.00
I haven't had this much fun in a long time. image

  • WOW, think he's using sniping software or doing it by hand?
  • DanC, I just looked at your auctions and they were all the same. Why didn't you just do 1 dutch auction with 25 items? And of course they are all "profitable" because you are selling $0.50 coins that start at $1. Right there you just doubled your money.

    Eddie,

Are you feeling okay? You've been jumping in to all these threads with your dark aura and it is depressing the coin collecting spirits that hover all about us.

  • Russ, you are right. I will try to better more AP (artificially pleasant). How's this: ohhh, I just love your 1964 Kennedy. And I also love your other 64 Kennedy. Wow, yet another 64 Kennedy. Ohhhh, nice Kennedy....is it a 1964? Wow, I haven't seen one of those in several minutes.

BTW, why are you so calm, pleasant and rational lately? Either you have been drinking green tea with echinacea, or you have been taking Tai Chi classes. Waz up?
  • DanC,

You did a great job of photographing and presenting the coins. On top of that, you had a very derterimined bidder.

Got to learn that digital photography stuff...

    Eddie,

That is much better. Now, doesn't your tummy feel calmer, your body more relaxed? Release those negative vibes and become one with the positive forces of the numismatic universe.

On cheaper items, I often start at one cent with no reserve. I'll even risk that for items I have five or six bucks in. A cheap start with no reserve is riskier for the seller, but it usually pays off in more bids.

It's a blast, ain't it? Lemme tell you, the market for world coins here in the states (outside of shows and some bigger venues, anyway) was totally dead. With eBay, Pow! I can get full catalog (or more) for stuff I wouldn't have been able to give away, much less get half catalog for, ten years ago!

  • Those of us who REMEMBER 1964 think the Kennedy half is the cat's own ass:

    Big block engines.

    Elvis (not the fat one).

    The Russians.

    The Beatles.

    The New York Worlds Fair.

    Project Mercury.

    Cassius Clay.

    The Addams Family.

    Mickey Mantle.

    The Kennedy Half. In SILVER!

It was still America's cultural peak. Gasparro's work of art belonged...

    CYBERKEN
  • Cyberken.......you forgot LSD, Marijuana and VD in your list.
  • That was Sixty-Five. As a result, few remembered Sixty-Four, even then...
    CYBERKEN
  • And, of course, in Sixty-Five, the Kennedy Half went to 40%. That kinda said it all...

  • I've been trying to start auctions at face value, but will sometimes go under face to start them at 9.99 to save on fees! It is a lot of fun to watch them jump up. You know they will get sold that way!

I like starting auctions at face value, too -- I feel it adds "style points". The only time I didn't was when I sold a half-cent -- durn eBay wouldn't let me enter 0.005 for the starting price (yep, I tried image ).
