This Is Why PHOTOS work- SCANS don't for eBay COLOR Coins!

I bid on this coin a few days ago and won. I did so on a hunch that the SCAN was NOT telling the whole story regarding this toned Kennedy.
It arrived today.
Tell me if PHOTOS are the ONLY way to go when it comes to offering colofully toned coins on eBay!

Here's the original auction- check out the SCAN: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3007324334 Notice there is just a 'hint' of color on the obverse, upper half. Just a hint or red.

Now, here is the REAL coin, as well as I could photograph it right now:

Here's a second angle:

SCANNERS work well with most coins- just not the ones with lots of color. For those, nothing beats PHOTOS.

Pat- that is pretty typical of what happens when a seller tries to use a scan of a toned coin. I have picked up some beauties cheap because the seller used an awful scan. Good score.
  • I like that half. How hard was it to photograph? Kscope

    K6AZ- I'm learning that too.

Kscope- I probably should have taken a bit more time to angle it just so, but wanted to get it done quickly.
The colors (and I know everyone says this!) are more NEON than the photo is exposing. The Yellows and Green are much more intense while the Red is captured pretty well.

(The reverse is brilliant save for some light rim toning.)

  • P Brad, don't be too critical of yourself..... Those pics looked good enough to show off much of the represented color there!

Here is one of my better scores. I am not so sure the image on the left is a scan, it looks more like a poor picture. The image on the right is what it really looks like. It is a NGC MS65, paid $95 for it. Come to think of it, maybe we ought to keep this under our hats! image

Braddick it makes you wonder what the sellers were thinking.

stman made fun of me when I bought this toner with a white rev. I didn't care cause I knew it was VAM 3. image

WhenI got it I laughed because it looked better than the sellers picture.

Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.
  • It's too late the news is out, at least to a few of us! I routinely buy coins which have been scanned instead of photographed and I am hardly ever disappointed! image

  • Don Bonser is a great seller with awesome coins and good prices.
