Crossovers from PCGS to NGC?

I’ve read a lot on the message boards about NGC crossovers to PCGS. I gather that there is a lot of traffic going that way and that most think the success rate averages 27%, with some variation from issue to issue.

But what about attempting to crossover PCGS coins to NGC – is there much traffic that way, and what is the success rate on average? Anyone have any experience to comment on these questions?

I crossed a couple of toned Peaces @ any grade that were downgraded by NGC 1pt.. While I agree with the grades given by NGC, I wasn't happy. I think that PCGS may have bumped these up 1 pt. for the toning and eye appeal.

    Good-Luck if you try it.

I have been crossing my PCGS Morgans to NGC. All have crossed at the same grade or a point higher. All were submitted in the PCGS Slab.
If It doesn't have great eye appeal, I don't want it.
  • Gerry - please tell me your not talking about our beloved 16th president with this question.
  • My experience crossing from PCGS to NGC has been consistently good. Out of the 10 coins for direct Cross (not cross at any grade). Eight crossed at the same grade (MS66 to MS66) One crossed at a point higher, (MS63 to MS64) and one was returned not crossed (MS66) with a note indicating the coin (PCGS Walker) had to many bag marks to meet NGC's standard for the grade. So for me, the crossover rate has been 90%.

We are finite beings, limited in all our powers, and, hence, our conclusions are not only relative, but they should ever be held subject to correction. Positive assurance is unattainable. The dogmatist is the only one who claims to possess absolute certainty.

I've had very good luck crossing PCGS as well as other slabbed coins to NGC. I would assume that quite a few coins go from PCGS to NGC. Probably more that way than the other way.

I have had horrible luck crossing from PCGS --> NGC. In fact, the results were so troubling to me that I PM'ed John Maben to offer him some of my thoughts on the matter!

  • I suspect there's a penalty to pay in any dealing between PCGS and NGC.
I my very limited experience, I find that the coin registries seem to hit their competitors hard in assigning points to a submission from across the street...and the only one that suffers is the collector.
PCGS and NGC won't admit that,of course but I'm convinced that it's true. Twowood image

Based on the few (probably a dozen) that I have cracked and submitted raw, all came back same grade except two. 1 upgrade and 1 downgrade of 1 point each. Cam/Dcam designation was identical. I have one PCGS holdered coin in my current submission that should grade any day. I'll repost the results and pics.
