hello everyone, a purely coin and collection related topic, no slabs, no wild colors, just a new coin for my collection and pics of it close up and in it's album hole. She's an 1807 in VG, original and uncleaned.

and yes, I know I need a new open collar capped bust dime as well as a better no stars seated lib.

these ones, for now, are fillin the holes image

enjoy!

Hey, now I know why eBay sellers use "L@@K" in the auction title. It got me in here.image Cool album, and cool coins.

That's a pretty net 1807 dime. The entire mintage was made from one set of dies and toward the end the dies were badly clashed and made some pretty ugly coins. Your coin is an early die state. If it were not for the mark behind Ms. Liberty's head, it would be REALLY choice for the grade.

    yeah, that mark, huh!
in a way it bugs me, and in a way I'm grateful for it on 2 levels: it's a part of the coin's history (it seems like an at least 190 year old mark) and more importantly, it made the coin more affordable for the detail!

I agree with you Baley, I can forgive a hit like that on a coin when the balance of it is so nice. Especially when I think the eye appeal is not hurt that badly.

  • Hey Baley, nice draped bust dime. What's up with the large sized capped bust dime with a bullet hole in it? That's a $3 coin. I demand that you obtain a F-VF example immediately so that your set matches!!! Seriously, nice collection.

    thanks guys.
numised, I AM patiently looking for such a large sized capped bust dime, as well as a no stars seated dime (that one's holed, inexpertly plugged, and has graffitti!) as well as the ever elusive small eagle dime in exactly good. There are a few other "holes" in the book as well, but no other holed coins. it's my "fun" collection that I keep at home, my better Dansco 7170 in AU and all my slabs have to stay at the bank image

  • Yeah Baby!! Now you're talkin'.

Can I have your holed coin that this one replaced?

oh, I see, first you bag on my holey coin to tear it down, then you want to have it for yourself?

    pretty smooth!

the 1821 is, i believe, the large date, with the curved 2.

incidentally, found out an interesting thing about the 1807, did you know the reverse dies of the 1807 dime were also first used to strike 1805-1807 Quarter Eagles??!?

Did somebody mention Holey Coins? image

(That word summons LordM from the murky Darkside depths just about as mysteriously as the word "Frankie" brings Lucy beboppin' in, LOL.)

I started collecting raw type and had fun with it, but I got mix up with that darn regestry sets and feel the presser of needing MS type and all the variety.

I hate it when you see my post before I can edit the spelling.
