1st Ebay venture...advice?

I'm about to dip my toe in the Ebay waters. It looks fairly simple and straightfoward. I'm not yet setup for photos so I'm starting off with slabbed coins where, I guess, photos aren't really necessary.
Any good advise...suggestions ? Twowood

photos are necessary. I'd wait until you can include pics with your auctions.

    Don't charge $15 for shipping.....
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

Any advise? Yes, include a picture. People will assume that your coins have undesireable toning unless they can see them.

  • twowood,
I'd be happy to host photos for you, if you can get scans or something.

Photos are a HUGE plus when listing. I can't say I won't buy from a description alone, but I have to know, or have a VERY GOOD feeling about the seller.

  • I agree with the others that pictures are important. Your auction will close at a higher
price w/ images included in your postings. I won't bid on ebay auctions without viewing
clear pictures of what I'm bidding on. Even if they are slabbed and certified, we have all
found that there is a huge disparity in certified grades by the various services.
Also, I recommend that you include in your shipping charges the cost of delivery confirmation.
Should there ever be a disagreement about the item being received, you have your receipt
and can look up the status of delivery on the USPS web site.

Scans work just fine for me. Include 1 or more in your auction.

Reasonable S&H based on what you are selling and ship in bubble mailers or some other good packaging.

Be polite in all your dealings (even when you are steamed). You will find that most everything can be worked out if handled politely. Most people do respond properly to sincerity.

No annoying backgrounds that makes the auction hard to read (that includes dancing chickens and the like).

    Good luck.

    Joe.
  • Have a reasonable return policy...even for slabbed coins....

Better than photos, is to make sure you have a no hassle return policy, or if you have a no return item, make sure it is posted plainly. I almost alway add scans or photos, but frankly they rarely show a coins luster and that is the most important thing. However, they can show the marks on a coin. The problem then arises as to which marks are on the coin and which are on the holder or merely reflections.
Photos are important, but are rarely accurate. mdwoods

  • I'm very new to the forum and ebay but have had several dozen transactions in the last few months and from my experiences and subsequent mistakes

    I would recommend :

A pic at all times....the slabbed SAE (MS69) I won had many spots and I had to return it..I skip all ads without pics now.

And yes keep shipping reasonable...I can't pay $6 on a $10 coin (It makes me crazy!!)...I look at the pic/scan first and then the shipping charges even BEFORE looking at the feedback!

This may sound somewhat distrustful, but now I post feedback return last it seems it allows everyone time to workout any differences

Most of all I look at what " the winners" do, the successful honest ones, and try to follow their methods

I also subscribed to their Sellers Assistant program ( $5/month) to "dress up" my ad, I believe you should present these beautiful things in as nice a light as possible. It also makes listing a straight forward process in which you are less likely to forget something.

    Hopes this helps..........

    Enjoy the day.........
