  • With the addition of AU, probably after WW 2. The easiest way to research this may be to look at old auction catalogs and examine their descriptions.
    PNG member, same identity as Julian, a veteran numismatic dealer since 1965. Operates a retail store, also has exhibited at over 1000 shows.

    I firmly believe in numismatics as the world's greatest hobby, but recognize that this is a luxury and without collectors, we can all spend/melt our collections/inventories.

  • It's kind of hard to say. The terms you mention all date back to at least the mid nineteeth century. But they didn't have the same meanings that they do today. I think with some justification it could be argued that an answer of three to five years would be valid. Another answer could be "Which system? The PCGS, NGC, ANACS, PCI etc." They use the same terms, but they aren't the same systems.
