perhaps a large size bust quarter I can call my own!?

I'm thinking of bidding on this one 1821
It's as common a date as you can find(that should keep the price down), it APPEARS to be original. I'm not sure if it's vf/xf-looks more like vf to me, and looks problem free. Comments?

  • IMO, vf at best.

I firmly believe in numismatics as the world's greatest hobby, but recognize that this is a luxury and without collectors, we can all spend/melt our collections/inventories.

I agree. Nice, pleasant gray surfaces but NOT XF.

  • Hi! The ebay coin looks cleaned, and I would say it's Fine to VF. Click here to see what an original, VF-20 large-sized bust quarter should look like.

the price just about triples between fine and very fine, making Fine+ coins like this an excellent value, if they can be obtained in the $100 range.

  • Really? Do you seriously want it? (Note the minor rim dings on the reverse.) I dug up my records, and the coin was previously certified by ANACS as VF-25. We paid $220 for it, but that was several months ago. I knocked it down for the rim dings.

    Warning: large images ahead!

By the way, here's another original large-sized quarter, one of my favorites. This one was in a SEGS XF-45 holder, and we grade it EF-40. The strike's a hint weak, but the toning is pretty cool, the way it frames the obverse device.

Here's an original AU that I'm in no hurry to sell. It's exceptionally attractive in-hand. This is an original 1821 in almost EF, and an original 1825/3 in AU. These last three have been long sold, but I thought you'd like to see what original coins look like, for comparison purposes. I guess this isn't really the proper place to conduct business - let me know via PM if you're interested! Thanks!
