What series are you becoming interested in?

I'm not interested in what you are currently collecting but really what i'm interested in is what series are you getting a hankerin' for that you might start collecting?

And why, if you know?

I guess my answer to my question would be Lesher Dollars. I don't collect them but they appeal to me. The reason they appeal to me is
that i've been to Victor, Colorado and they just seem interesting to me. Eight sided, silver, made over 100 years ago, different businesses are represented on them....

What I really want to get started into is gold. Specifically Liberty $20 and $5 and Saint $20. I think the reason why they appeal to me is not so much the precious metal, but I have always liked the look of them in precious metal. Most coins are white or toned or whatever, but these are golden. They have a lustrous quality that is different from silver coins. And even though GAEs come close, in one sense they are not as good. To me the modern ones are a little lifeless.

The sad part is, if I want to actually pursue this, I'll either have to limit myself to 1-3 a year or sell off my silver coins and plunge in.

  • Good topic Adrian!

As for my little girl and I, we just finished Franklins, and added the album to completed Roosevelts, Jeffersons, Ike's, SBA's, and are 99% complete on Lincolns, Kennedys, and only one away from Washingtons.

Next stop - Mercury dimes. Plentiful in the lower grades (all that her allowance & income can afford) yet scarce enough to make it challenging to put together. After that, I believe that we will head toward the buffalo nickles, and then into the Peace dollars.

The quality of these sets are not fantastic by any stretch of the imagination, nor are they expected to pay for her college in another 8 years, but the value of the common-time that the two of us spend together on these projects is priceless.

You see, our son (one year younger than our daughter) is handicapped with severe autism and demands a lot of my wife & my time. Unfortunately, that leaves little time for our daughter. Fortunately, she is a very brilliant child, with a very large heart and her depth of understanding and compassion belittles many so-called adults I have met in this world, so it is not as major of an issue as it could be.

We have our coins, and the time we spend putting together circulated sets in whatever grade we can find (and afford) is as I said before - priceless.

  • Indian half eagles.

I finished the quarter eagles and I thought it would be neat to close out the incuse design by completeing both sets.

Falling in love with the heft, the feel, the beautiful rendition of lady liberty. Thinking about a short set of raw cheapies just because they turn me on. Isn't that the best motivation to collect anything?

  • Barbers, For some reason I think the design is stunning, may have something to do with my Grandparents had a small bag with coins in it and I was never allowed to touch this one "Barber" when they would take them out.

funny you'd mention lesher dollars. i'm hoarding a specific so-called dollar. i'm not sure why, other than i just like the heck out of 'em, & they're cheap (right now).

(needless to say, i can't tell you the exact 1 i'm hoarding... image)

Well after I finish my Ike's I probably look toward Peace dollars or two cent pieces...I think the 2 cent pieces have fantastic eye appeal
