Does PCGS shoot some air on US Mint Capsuled coins?

I was going to send in some Bicentennial proofs and there is some dust particles on the coin. No damage but the dust is just laying there and I am not able to open the capsule safely. Does PCGS shoot some compressed air on the coins? I sometimes see the red lint from proof sets on coins and wonder the same. Does anyone know?

  • Dont know the correct answer semperfi but I would doubt it. Compressed air has moisture in it and that would be bad if it got on the coins, but I may be wrong.

  • ttt- would be interested in the answer.
  • They replace dust with fingerprintsimage

I worked in optical for years and there is "Dry" compressed air you can use.

I was told that PCGS does NOT do this. However, NGC reportedly does this.

If you can't open the capsules, then probably neither can PCGS. They will not break the coins out. They will return them to you as is.
