Lemme introduce myself......

After lurking in the shadows and reading your posts, I decided to sign up so I might interject some levity and or wisdom...... My name is Jim, and I live on the northern shore of the "Great Corn Sea" which other people call Indiana....... Im in my early 40's, and have been collecting pretty much non-stop since silver coins were still in circulation....... My area of interests vary, but seated halves have always been what makes me a happy camper....... For the record...... I think ACG slabs are crap, toning doctors should be set in a mayonaise jar with sulphuric acid and left on Funk and Wagnalls porch, and theres no greater pleasure than being at the bourse when the doors open !!!!! Good to see y'all, and I hope we'll all be good neighbors on-line !

Welcome, let's talk seated halves anytime!
Some refer to overgraded slabs as Coffins. I like to think of them as Happy Coins.

    Long time,
We can always use one more on the pile. Be sure to post some good pics. Unfortunately my type set only has a few seated coins (couple dimes and an Arrows/Rays quarter). Would love to see some of those halves.

Nice to have you here, LTC. Welcome!

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

    Welcome to the Forum Jim.
  • Welcome Jim and Hi Forum!

I too am new, waiting for a comfortable moment to join. I 'm in my fifties, retired from the medical field and fully enthralled with each new addition! Three months ago I picked up where I left off 40 + years ago. But I'm back (as George Costanza my say) and from my readings and these boards, I've made a few mistakes and probably done things that are certainly risky....I'm trying to curtail my buying...but its VERY hard...I'm on-line 10 hours a day, bidding and reading having a great time.

Hopefully, I will be able to contribute in the near future. Right now I've got many questions. But do not fret , I'll only ask one today if I may.

I bought a comm. coin MS70 certified by ICG, I've read many threads here, but excuse me if I missed this one, is this a grading service you are familiar with. I googled it and it seemed to have some respect in the field....Is this one of my mistakes?

By the way...I enjoy mainly collecting mercs and Walking Liberties, and all others as an investment.

    Sorry for the long intro..

    Thanks Johnimage

    Enjoy the day.........

JOHNandBEA; Welcome. Can't help much with your question about ICG except
to assure you that most people here generally have little respect for any of the
services except the big two. As for a specific ICG coin you'll need someone who's
expert on such things. It may be a good idea to start a new thread to find an in-
    formed response.
