Lincolm experts, or anyone

I am attaching another picture of a particular Lincoln penny. When you look inside the blue circle on the picture, do you see the faint outline of another Lincoln statue??? Thanks, Ken

  • OOPS!!!! Wrong picture!
  • I see what you're seeing, but I don't think its an outline of the statue. The "body" in the ghost strike is much taller than the actual strike. The pedestal is lower also. It is very similar, but I think its merely a coincidence. For there to be a ghost of Lincoln there, there would be other areas with ghost images, and I just don't see them.

Still, it is a cool find!

  • I'll try to fix the picture. For some reason the blue circle will not show up. Sorry, Ken
  • Ken,
I saw the blue circle just fine.

  • Lets see if this is better!
  • I could not see the blue circle or the white-out that I just put on the new picture. I don't know what is wrong!! Ken

I see what you are speaking of in your photograph, but there are many times that the natural mottling and die wear can "look" like many things, and that's what you have. The proposed secondary statue has a different shape and size from the original, which removes it from being a doubled die. Secondarily, there would have to be doubling of the columns or something else of higher relief before the doubling of the lower relief statue would show up. Imagine pressing the coin into a flat piece of clay. If you pressed very lightly the statue would not be copied. If you pressed hard enough to copy the statue where you proport yours to be, there would be very strong doubling of at least the central columns within the bays of the existing columns because they are of much higher relief.

  • Thanks guys. I did not even think that was doubled, was just wondering what it was that I thought I was seeing. Thanks again, Ken
