What are the fun things about collecting coins and being on this forum?

I`m asking this question to try to take the edge off of the tension around here lately.
For me, I like the look and feel of silver. It probably sounds strange to collect coins, as opposed to bullion, but I like silver. Morgans and Peace are my favorites. Collecting Peace dollars remind me of the stories that my Grandmother use to tell me when she was a teenager and young woman. She was wealthy, she and her family was embezzeled by a " trusted " lawyer and accountant in the 1929 crash. She would tell us stories of going by train to places like Miami, New York, and San Francisco in the 1920`s. She would go to the Waldorf ( before it merged with the Astoria hotels ). Going on the beaches of Miami where the hotels where so far, she would have to take a taxi or walk. She talked and talked often about the 1920`s and being a life long fan of Cab Calloway. She`s been gone for for over a decade but, the memories of her stories still live on with me. Peace dollars help me to add to the " look and feel of the Twenties " . Something tangable to what was present during the roaring Twenties when my Grandmother was a teenager and young women.
As with this forum, my family are bored silly when it comes to my humble little collection. Here it`s apprieciated and talked about. Everyone gets along, at least most of the time.

I'm like a kid at X-mas when it comes to opening packages with new additions to the collection, or swoopin in for the Kill on ebay. Holding a piece of History like a rare date Morgan CC (89) or simply setting down and spreading out EVERYTHING on the table, counter and floor to just take it all in. I Love it when I make a nice profit on a coin or learn something new. The list goes on and on.
The Forum:
The endless, witty banter of cranky old men bashing each other ego's.

The forums: Hmmmm, great information when people are not whining about something.

The forum? A way of "doing" coins anytime, day or night, even during the two-foot snowstorm we just got belted with.

Now listen boy, I'm tryin' to teach you sumthin' . . . . that ain't no optical illusion, it only looks like an optical illusion.
My mind reader refuses to charge me....
As for the forum...I'm continuoulsly impressed by the knowledge level as well as the diverse collecting interests...and the occasional warped sense of humor....
the coin in high grade Proof with deep frost against black watery fields can
be a most striking and beautiful coin of the minters art. I would imagine that a high grade
Mint State with heavy frost would exhibit almost the same design beauty. It is a most detailed
and intrecate design and I find the coin with the abve attributes quite appealing.

I am outnumbered by womenfolk 4-1 here, and I know I'll appear gender-biased to mention that if it doesn't get worn or eaten, it isn't an important hobby or past-time to them.
It's refreshing to find a place and folks with the interest to collect and talk about 'finds', tough coins, and experiences. Nobody here asks regarding new purchases "Is that REAL money?" unless they suspect it's counterfeit.
Oh, that's what I like about my job. Getting OT here.
What I like about collecting and this board is being able to stay up on the latest coin news and talk with other collectors & dealers with my same interests. There's the most knowledgable collectors and the biggest dealers here. You never get a mediocre point of view or opinion but range from the far left to the far right and that lets me see things from all sides and better form my opinion or answer my question. Sometimes when I read a thread I might wait till several other people have replied before I reply because I may be undecided about the issue at first and what other say may help me form my opinion or make a more informed reply.
I am now in the process of putting together a Franklin collection.
This forum is full of really knowledgable and friendly persons.
Thanks, Ken
