    JB,

Get it slabbed as I have a bad feeling about its color. Nice coin but fake colors.

    TBT,

For those of us who are trying to grok this, can you be more specific?

  • I don't want to be anything but positive.....Toning throws up red flags BUT, I have toned coins that toned in envelopes, sitting out, in cabinets. None were accelerated. Some of the "diagnostics" used here are the board "cointradict" (new word) what I have seen happen with my own eyes. Like same color on devices than on the fields. This is not a 100% rule. It can help, but not an absolute.

It appears to be sulfer based toning from an old 2.5 x 2.5 whitman manilla envelope.
It does not appear to be AT.

I would agree on this one. I've seen plenty of original toned coins where the toning in and on the lettering is the same as the field. I've noticed lately many folks on here are using it as an absolute that the toning in and on the lettering can't be the same as the fields.

Dunno if it's real or not, dunno if I much care, but I like the colors on this Roosie. Real or AT, I'd buy it if the price was right.

    Russ,

The colors show heat contact and "over splash". I have a box of moderns with this same pattern and color that came out at Long Beach last year. Brian at NGCNCS said they were referring to it as Art toning. GASGUY also has about 50 examples of the same type of the same type on proof and MS Roosevelt’s, Jefferson’s, Washington’s, IKS, and Kennedy’s.

If I had not seen so many examples I would have thought it would be real and bought it as such. If one of the services will slab it then is a market acceptable coin.

    JB,

Take it next week to Mike Faronne at the ANACS table for his opinion then show it to Brian at NGC. You will have a better feel for the coin and its authenticity then. I would also like to hear an update after LB.
