Teletrade selling "brilliant,well struck,lustrous"

While I prefer not to debate the merits of Teletrade itself, I would be interested in understanding their desciptions. It seems that 90% of the coins they sell have the same description: brilliant, well struck, lustrous. What other key terms that they use would tell you this is worth going after? What terms would tell you this is one to avoid ? I promise not to tell; we'll keep this just among us. image

    brilliant, well struck, lustrous
means you might get a better coin than one that's described as
slightly above average strike & luster, a tick on the eagle
which could be better than one that's
average strike & luster & a few small obv ticks
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.

I bought and returned a few that said, brilliant, well struck, lustrous. They sometimes leave out things like large milk spots on proofs, or funny looking black spots. Some are nice as described. I just can't trust their descriptions, no matter what they say. They are behind the times by not giving a picture.

  • image I view and purchased several items from Teletrade. I generally keep in sight only the coins with a picture. At times I will pay attention to certain coins without a picture, but leary on bidding. It depends on the grading company and coin type or variety.
It would be great if they posted pictures on all coins. Respond to their questionaire often and hopefully they will do this for their customers!
It is fun to track and view a great variety of coins, especially the Rainbow Auctions!image

I haven't purchased anything off of teletrade in well over a year, just wasn't satisfied with my last purchase that didn't have a pic. My error, I'll admit that, and it was cheap enough it wasn't worth the effort/time of returning.

With what they charge both sellers & buyers, they should have pics of all coins, even if they do a quick scan and not trim off the slab to make it look neat. This should be a minimum level of service, but people continue to buy without pics and/or not complain about lack of pics, so Teletrade will continue the way they are, they have no reason to change.

  • I just purchased my first Teletrade coin. It was a 1904-O NGC MS66! Fully Blast white and I found only one tick on the reverse. I know, I know, it wasn't PCGS, but it is a nice '66 anyway!!!
