I'm not sure modern toned coins carry the same magnitude premium some of the classics do.
I did place one bid
take that 1939-D jeff MS66 for example, from what I can tell it sells for around $85. Your starting bid is $300 with a BIN of $500. THat seems high to me. I know folks around here talk about the toning premium and all that but a 350% toning premium just for starting bid? Is that a typical mark up for similar toning??
As pretty as it may be I just couldn't bring myself to spend that much on that particular coin. That's just my 2 cents. Good day and good luck.

Gook luck, I hope you get what you need for them.

Just curious.

Nice. I think you should stop all of them and just sell them to use at Long Beach.

IMO, Lighten up folks!
1)Many of the coins are flooded with light and this makes it difficult to tell what is really going on with the strike, surfaces, luster and marks on the coins.
2)A 5% restocking fee and minimum $5 return fee are an automatic flag to me to tell me never to bid on your auctions because you expect a healthy rate of return. In other words, your coins are not as nice as advertised and you want to slow down people from getting their money back.
3)Instances of very high shipping rates. Charging $6 postage on a less than $30 coin is a lot! Similarly, charging $12 for a less than $100 coin is also a ton.
4)Some of your prices are simply way too high for the material as offered.
5)Coins you describe as rainbow do not look rainbow in your images.
So, I might be afraid to bid on your auction of, lets say, a $30 coin because when I get it I might think the image was not true to the look and if I wanted to return it I would be stuck with $6 shipping plus a $5 return fee plus my shipping back to you. In other words, $15 to return a $30 coin. No thanks.

Restocking fees, high return charges dont help. And finally, when someone dictates to me in an auction what a coin is worth then I look for another auction. Maybe it is auction psychology, but starting a coin at $1.00 says to the world "I know I have a killer coin and it will fetch what it is worth", that seems to draw a lot of interest. Everything else is a dealer trying to make a profit.
Good luck,
Tyler

Advertising on this forum is against the "rules"! It doesn't matter what anyone thinks, it is a no-no. The boards dealer tried to be allowed to advertise on this board, and ran a poll which over whelming supported it. Even then PCGS said no, so he had them create the registry forum for him to advertise on.
Why is it that people no longer care if someone breaks the rules.
Oh yeah, to me, re-stocking fees are as bad as saying no returns. I do my fair share of returning, and anyone who is going to penalize me for that is just not going to get my bids regardless of how good a picture may be.
Unfortunately, this thread seems to be more self serving, than that of general interest.
Perhaps a better vehicle or approach would have been to go to several known collectors on this board via PM, with a request for them to review the auctions and reply.
On the other hand, this board at times becomes very intolerant of minor transgressions by solid board members in one instance, and then fully tolerant of other trangressions by others. I don't get it!
This really used to be a great place for comraderie and knowledge. Now it is just a place to come and slum for me. Perhaps I am guilty of Cabin fever, but it aint what it used to be. A person can get flamed here quicker than a burger at Burger King.
This is my Humble Opinion, so I can't be wrong!

I love your icon coin, but not $1500 worth, maybe $50

(I agree with the overall sentiment here, but let's throw mncoin a bone. He's a good guy and lets chalk this one up as a freebie.

Sorry Morris.. you continually seek the approval of this Forum's Board Members from time to time and I guess you really do not use the feedback to change anything in your sales approach. Frankly, I think you should stop continuing to seek the opinions of the members of this Board for your auctions since as you can read from this thread.. and many share the same opinions... that you do nothing to change the way you operate IMHO.
You'll win a few, you'll lose a few. Ususally - if it's a good coin, well photographed - you'll win.
I listed 25 auctions in the past 2 days. All but 7 already have bids, and some are heating up nicely.
Every time - bar none that I started an auction close to what I thought it should go for... no bids.
Start it at $1.00 - and every time they go for more than I thought they would when I set a higher price.
I don't claim to be the 'expert of ebay' - or an expert at anything... but I know what I've seen.
And $6.00 is WAY too much for shipping IMHO.
Pictures speak 1,000 words. Great pictures, perhaps 1,500. Text means little... again - just my opinion,
but it seems to work for me. Obviously you are free to do as you please.
edit:
p.s. - on the auctions that have bids... your photography is MUCH better in 90% of the cases.
On the ones that don't - it's fair to good at best. Not trying to condemn or criticize, just rationalize.
1. a return policy with a restocking fee isn't really a return policy.
2. an auction that starts at $100 dollars isn't really an auction.
3. exhorbitant shipping fees are just a way to cover the cost of listing an item.
4. a photograph which doesn't attempt to depict the coins actual appearance is deceptive.
5. links to one's own auctions on the U.S. coin forum are generally discouraged as advertising.
The Solutions:
1. offer a 7-day no questions asked return with no restocking fee.
2. always start at $1, let the coin sell itself and use a reserve if need be.
3. base shipping on actual supply cost and postage/insurance rates. be reasonable.
4. take the most representative picture possible and give a clear, accurate and unemotional description.
5. move this over to the BST from now on or lose the links.
just my PR65 two-cents worth!!

Complete agreement there Carl. This kind of thread doesn't belong here. Like Mark Feld said, "not the first time, either." This Forum has been used repeatedly as a means of advertising Mnmcoin's auctions. I hope this is the last.

As I buyer, I read that as
<< <i>Many people who want high quality return my coins, so I have to impose a 5% restocking fee on all certified coins. There is a minimum $5 charge and $50 maximum. ***Bid with confidence*** >>
Bid with the confidence that the most I'll have to pay is $50 to return a low quality coin?
