Home U.S. Coin Forum

By far the best solution to the aswimmer dilemma.

It boils down to this:
If you feel that a coin is AT, then don't buy it!. Let the free market speak for itself.
Education is the best deterent to potentially someone purchasing an AT coin.
There have been numerous threads on this topic, go to the search option on this forum and knock yourself out. At last count, there were 19 threads on this topic. I have been collecting for 22 years and
can tell the difference, not everyone else can, if you can't, then ignorance is not an option. There are numerous resources at your fingertips.

If you still can't tell, then buy certified only. Its not a 100% guarantee, but I believe its 99%.
If someone is intentially selling AT coins and missrepresenting them from a so called "estate", then
thats their problem. Its between them and God. Do I believe the two coins are identicall? Yes, I
am 99% sure that they are. The overwhelming similarities in knicks, dings, metal flow, and other signatures is there. Am I accusing someone of anything? No, Like I said, the market will speak for itself,
I find that those who practice this, don't last very long in the numismatic community.

I think education is the absolute key. This forum has helped me on this as well.

Brian what do you think of this idea I just posted in a different thread.

<< <i>As for education, I couldn't agree more. Somewhere I posted an idea about selling a link to a website on Ebay as to what to look for in AT doctored coins. With all of the expertise on this Board, toning, computer, legal , I'm sure a website could be established that could be a primer for those uneducated or unfamiliar. Even if it had a BIN of $1.00 with 400 available, it would sell on EBay, and a link could be provided to the winners of the auction educating them as to what is AT vs. natural. Pics could be posted, text could be added, links to other's sites selling real toned coins could also be listed (for a fee of course) >>

yes what you say is very true..........however in the mean time a lot of people are getting screwed, and that is a real shame, once they find out that they have been had, chances are they will leave the hobby and have nothing good to say about us. all because of some dirtbag.......and my message to those who are doing these things...........on this forum you arent fooling anybody here, there are collectores here that have been in the hobby over 50 years.......have seen people try and pull all kinds of tricks, and make up all kinds stories..........you are not fooling anyone here bud! so do yourself a favor, take your trash and your brain dead thinking and disappear...........if the shoe fits..........go wear it!

The unfortunate things is that if a dirtbag leaves, there is another one always waiting to fill the void.
Education has to be a deterent. We have all had bad experiences when we first entered the hobby,
it doesn't excuse the dirtbags who screwed us, but we stayed on and learned and persevered.
