There are still a LOT of shield nickel varieties that are not recorded. The Fletcher book was mainly interested in just repunched dates and doubled dies and i know I didn't have that one recorded in my notes either. The only person I know of who might have had information on that coin would have been Les Leroy Smith. He had several hundred 1868 varieties listed. Unfortunately he never published any of his work and he was getting out of the shield nickels over a decade ago. I don't know where he is today. (at one time he offered to sell me his entire reference set, plus photosgraphs and all of his notes but I couldn't afford it. Its a shame because it would have made a great book.
