Ever spend part of your "collection"?

Today I was at the local Jack in the Box and gave the cashier four wheat pennies as part of the payment. A well worn 1916 (AG), XF 1939, 1944, and 1945D. The young man didn't even notice when he counted it. I wonder if the person or persons who receive them in change will notice.
US Navy CWO3 retired. 12/81-09/04

Looking for PCGS AU58 Washington's, 32-63.

Every now and then I buy dateless buffs and spend them. I have also received an indian head cent in change, although it was damaged horribly and was basically cull (It took me a while to realize it was a indian head). I ended up spending it.

Many times after picking through some rolls, I will spend the rest. I at one time dumped about 10 rolls of 1946ish to 1955ish nickels. Another time I took about 40 rolls of 1959 to 1974-S red Lincoln cents to the bank after picking out the best stuff. image

I remember back in 1995 to promote the Anahiem Summer ANA show they put out a bunch of change into circulation. Some "rare" coins even. The ANA was trying to see if anyone would report back to them some of their finds. Turned out not many of the coins came back.....meaning nobody noticed the ANA advertising about it. Whether anyone who found any of these really cared no one knows....

I have a 1982-D Washington half dollar that came back from ANACS body-bagged. (You know if ANACS BBs it it's gotta be a pretty crappy coin.) It's currently in my pocket. Someday it'll get spent.
  • I always carry a few 40s and 50s wheat cents in my pocket and spend them all over the place or occasionally put one in the penny tray at the gas station.

My collecting interest was renewed several years ago when I found a RB 57-D in my change. Maybe one that I leave around will spark/renew sombody else's interest. I still have that 57-D leaning on the screen of my monitor!!

On a recent domestic airline flight one of my kids located a new 50 cent Euro in the seat pocket. He gave it to me and it's been in my coat pocket since. Many a time I have reached in for parking meter change only to rediscover it. Since it is close to the size of a quarter it may end up in a parking meter one of these days by accident. Until then its fun to have a "pocket piece."
