Merc People -- a little assistance, please

Just won a 37-D Merc from a BidBoard. No pics yet, but this coin is flawless. Great luster, not a single mark, tic or anything and it's SB. (As if I really know)

But I was wondering -- whats the prices on a MS65 SB, MS66 SB and a MS67 SB?

Thanks
Michael

    65FB $70
    66FB $105
    67FB $227

Post the picture when you have it.
Its a better date in FB. These prices are based on the fact that I have about a dozen in my collection and its an average of the prices I paid most recently in the past few years.

    Thanks Brian

Oops, I meant FB, don't know why I used SB. But thanks. I picked it up for $18 so I guess I can't go wrong. Another $15 for grading and $33 won't be much into it.

This is my first attempt at trying to grade Mercs no-less bands, it'll be interesting as to how close I am.

The last one I bought was a toned 45-P and I didn't care about the grade but that one came back MS67.

Gee, I might have to start seriously collecting these thingys. They're kinda neat.

Its a tougher date in full bands. Scan it when you get it and I will help you with the bands and will
see if its worth submitting, heck, if its a nice quality coin, submitt it anyway.image Good luck.

Please also note that the prices I posted are for PCGS/NGC/ANACS examples only.
Raw examples trade for FAR less, considering that most raw examples that are designated as full bands, are only partially split bands.

This one was merely posted on a true BidBoard by a private party. No grade, no designation. My grades are estimates of what I think only. The bands are truly full, nicely rounded symetrical and distinct and separated from each other. If it isn't a FB, I'd be surprised. What else could a FB entail?

As for the numerical grade. The coin doesn't have a flaw to 5x magnification. Strong strike and great luster.

I don't know diddly squat about Mercs but if this is a plain MS65. I'd love to see a true MS67 FB, because that would be an awesome coin in comparision.

It sounds like you got a great deal. I can't wait to see the scan.

What you say is probably true but, to me, FB "entails" Full Strike. Check the perifery of the coin also and other details not related to the bands. BTW, even if you have a weak strike elsewhere you would still get the FB designation if what you say is true about the band.

    Good luck! image

Here is a 37D that is almost fully struck. Nice eye detail and raised bottom edge on the hair, a couple of things that I look for. On the reverse there is some weakness in the E of one as Jom referred to in his post. For sure a fully split middle band does not mean a Merc is fully struck. This coin is in a PCGS MS66FB holder.

Edit to add: Also I like to see a well defined Axe Head on these also. This is somewhat mushy looking at times.

Here is another example of a 37-D with FSB.

    1937-D PCGS-MS66FB

I hope we have been helpful.
