Interesting 1963 Proof Set

I won this 1963 proof set with a interesting half in it. Any thoughts on this? What would cause just that part to rainbow tone that way?

Thanks for the info.

  • Is there a hole in the cellophane?

HMM...I wonder if the toning patch will look similar to this:

When you get it, be sure and do one of your nice images and we can compare.

  • It just seems odd that it would be in that one spot and not the whole coin. Can't wait to get it.

I will post pictures when it arrives.

Since it's still in the cello, I can't help but think the exposure that allowed toning in such a limited fashion has probably damaged the surface of the coin. Is it your intent to try and slab this coin?

Usually, when you see that pattern it is due to a small hole in the cello.

  • The ad does state that there is a hole in the cello. Depends what else was near or what environment they were all stored in. I would have to withold judgement until I saw better pics - the seller's pics do absolutely nothing for the coin. I too would like to see pics once it arrives. Good Luck! Dave

I've seen dozens of sets with a similar toning spot. Every time there was a hole in the plastic wrapper. Sometimes the spots have very vibrant colors.
