Help me share my treasures (such as they are)

I would love to donate some images of some of my "babies" to these boards, but I am having a rough go of it with my digital camera. I would really appreciate any tips, secrets, advice, etc on how to get a good image for downloading. What's the best light source, intensity, distance from camera, background, etc. Whatever information anybody can provide would be greatly appreciated, and I'll return the favor by hopefully sending out some nice scans! I have a Sony Cyber shot 2.0 megapixels and 6x zoom.
Don't you know that it's worth
every treasure on Earth
to be young at heart?
And as rich as you are,
it's much better by far,
to be young at heart!

not too many tips there for slabs, but atleast it gave me some new ideas, wouldn't have thought the background colour would make that much difference.

  • Yow! That's a great site with alot of info. Plus the guy has some serious coins! Thanks for providing the link. Anybody else with personal preference/experience in imaging coins, feel free to chime in!

Look for a tripod which has a mounting screw at the bottom as well as the top of the center mast. Kits Camera (I think they go by some other name in some Malls - Ritz?) has at least one model that is less than 50 bucks that has this feature. This is a cheap alternative to a copy stand. OfficeMax sells clamp on lamps for five or six bucks apiece which can be clipped to the legs of the tripod and have goosenecks so they can be angled around to get the desired reflection or absence of same. Two is preferable. The camera is of course screwed onto the bottom of the center mast but you may have to fashion an adaptor to get it to point down rather than to the side depending on your camera and whether you can angle the lens.
  • Thanks very much, I have a Ritz real close by, and I was thinking of stopping by there. I guess the camera holder is the key, because I always get slightly blurry images trying to hold the camera with hands.
