I didn't think pcgs netted coins, It all depends on how "small" the nick is. It's a key date so they will be a little bit easier on it. Let us know how it turns out.
Don't mind me, I had two of the first four coins I submitted come back in body bags, and one of the customer service reps told me to go to the ANA grading school. I think it is funny, but I have heard they cut some slack on key coins.
And, I wish I was grading it for you, because it would get slabbed fairly!
I hope you get the grade you expect! Thanks for the comment on my dime set!

Peetie, my limited experience has been that PCGS is more forgiving on rare coins, the 16D (while desirable) isn't rare and depending on how severe and where on the coin the ding is, they may bag it. Near the date will likely get a bag. I hope i'm wrong and you get the grade. Being on the reverse, you might slide by.
When we are planning for posterity, we ought to remember that virtue is not hereditary.
1809 half dollar--tooling--minor scratch on reverse about 3/16" long--it looked like someone tried to clean it many many years ago and may have used something to try to remove some tarnish or something. The coin was a solid AU now I consider it a BU (Beat Up).
1883 no cent Liberty nickel--Cleaning or Wizzed--an 1/8" x 1/8" rub spot under the chin on the obverse--the rest of the coin flawless.
I have not had a coin bagged since--and probably learned more from that submission than I have in many years of collecting. I guess I trussed "some" dealers more than I should have and now I pass on stuff I would have bought in the past.
(Both coins purchased from reputable dealers as high grade coins).
Ken--I know your kidding--I still think it is funny.

Well atleast none of you have made a total bone head mistake like I did in the early 80's. I had a AU Merc 1916D that got bagged from ANACS as a counterfiet. That mistake made me very wary and cautious from that day on. Well almost wary and cautious.
ANACS wrote me a note and said there was No Hope for myself so do not even consider Grading School just buy certified coins. Hmmm.....they had a corner on the market then, as far as I was concerned.

(Whoops, I read "ANACS". Disregard!)

Tony you know I'm kidding you.
Hey what grade do you think the 16D is ? Your rim ding would probably be looked at in a different light if this is a higher grade coin.
Ken
It is not a high grade at all. I am hoping for an F-12.
