Is Your Bank Giving You.......

Just went to my bank today on a lark to see what I would end up with if I got some assorted rolled coins. When I asked for rolls of dollar coins, the nice young teller asked "Do you want Gold Dollars or Silver ones?" Surprised, I asked for silver and got a few rolls of SBA's. She went on to tell me they are glad to get rid of them and wished I would take them all. Does this happen to you? Is the SBA so unwanted that circulated ones are sitting around unchecked, unsaved and unloved? Would like the hear the thoughts from the SBA collectors out there.

By the way. out of the four rolls, 12 were 1999's, 24 were 1980's and the rest were 1979's. No 1981's at all.

Out of five rolls of Kennedy's, 3 40% silver (all 1966), nothing else special, no Frankies, Walkers, darkside, watch backs, tokens or anything else.. interestingly, nearly a quarter of the total were 1974's.

  • I do that from time to time at my bank. They often do not have halves for some reason and when I ask for a roll of dollars, they often only have Sacs. The last time I went, the teller actually had sacs and "Silver Dollars"... which turned out to be 4 SBA and the rest Sacs...ARGH!

Yes that's exactly what happens. There was one time that I got two new bankwrapped rolls of 2001 D Sacs. Neat but they were heavily scarred from the counting machines. There was also once when the bank manager asked the teller if the silver halves were already picked out. About 5 minutes later they brought my rolls of halves, which had no 90% or 40% coins. Also, when I get silver dollars they are usually hand-rolled mixtures of SBA and SAC's. After being handled the Sac's are never the same.

what is it bank policy to make sure there's no silver in circulation now? my old girlfriend worked at a bank where she brought me goodies all the time. just old circulated silver, silver certs, red seal notes etc. i always made sure she had $50 on her so she could buy whatever she wanted.

when she was working someone cashed in $300 in mercury dimes. i guess she was on the phone to her husband pronto to bring down $300. missed out on that one.

NoviceKris, if those 1974 Kennedys are 74-Ds, you need to check them for the double die variety. I've found a handful of those. My guess is that in circulated condition they are worth$10 or so. Good luck.

Once I inquired and the teller said he had only 2 halves. Obviously I didn't expect much, but by total luck one coin was a circulated (very) Franklin. I guess you never know!
