  • image I don't even have a 2003 SAE and they are already being destroyed, isn't this defacing US money, i always thought that was illegal?

No 2003s are being destroyed. They,re just more colorized SAEs.Under the paint / sticker is a normal 1 oz. Silver Eagle. And its NOT all for profit. They are making a donation from the sell of these so its not totally unethical.

I wouldn`t buy one but I dont object to these anymore than an `Elvis SAE` or a Dale Ernhart SAE.

Its a novelty item.No big deal.

Nope, not illegal. You can mess with US money all you want, legally.

What you can't do is mess with US money with intent to defraud. For example, taking a half dollar and grinding it down to dollar coin size, and then attempting to spend it as one dollar. Up to the point of attempting to spend it, you've done nothing wrong (legally).

This sort of colorization, while aesthically and morally abhorrent, is perfectly legal.

It is supply and demand at work. If there was no demand, there would be no supply! The market will determine pricing. If the price is too high they won't sell any! image

  • since it didn't matter with WTC tributes then this probably won't matter much here either but just for the record

Yes, I know that there is a donation, but...

Say they buy 50,000 eagles... they cost $6 each... they slap on an ugly sticker that costs 10c, tops... That means $6.10 for the coin and ugliness, so they pull in about $24 on the sale... I doubt much of that is gonig to charity- some, yes, but a majority? I just wouldn't assume that... big donations would be in huge letters.
