1914-D Cent. Fake?

The second 1 doesn't look right, doesn't seem to be low enough. Can't tell if it's vertical either. What do yall think? Can't rally tell if a VDB is there or not, or if removed. The high bid sure looks low so far.

I cannot see the coin well enough to make any type of determination. There are plenty of them in holders, it really is not rare, and the seller is new. If it were me, I'd stay clear.

  • Lousy picture...no rating...and that 14 looks like an altered 44 to me, from what I can see.

I could be an altered 2 or 4. But again the pic is poor.

The picture is bad, but looks like an altered 1944 to me. Here's a blowup in photoshop of it.

Good blowup. Wasn't sure if it was just reflection but now it definately looks altered.

  • Doesn't look good to me but, anyone trying to sell a 14-D unholdered should provide HUGE , detailed scans, at a minimum. I'd stay WAY clear of these sunglasses!!

If this were a legitimate coin, and in the claimed grade, what would the market value be?

  • You can't really tell from that picture. If I were to guess, I would say from the position of the mint mark it is probably good. why buy anything
off ebay that is not slabbed?

Hard to tell, even from the blowup. But the 9 and the 1 look too far apart, and the D should look just like the D on a 1916 mercury dime since the same punches were used (at least according to the PCGS counterfeit and grading guide). That D has squared off seriphs and the opening of the D is triangular in shape.
  • From what I can see that second "1" is not vertical, more like a 20 - 30 degree tilt. That's enough to tell me it's a fake.
