Why aren't "Moderns" called 'Contemporaries'?

The word, 'modern' makes me think of something from the 50's or 60's. Like, "Modern Rooms" at a sixties style small town motel. Usually if something states it is modern it means it isn't.
If Classic works well for pre(fill-in-the-date) coins then wouldn't coins after that date be better classified as Contemporary Coinage?
I see Teletrade has taken up that term.
I'm surprised it hasn't caught on with others.

It would also confuse some numismatic terms already in existence like "contemporary
counterfeit".
The word just means "at the same time" so it's no more descriptive and less accurate.
I like it. "at the same time coin bashing".
We'll use our hands and hearts and if we must we'll use our heads.
Some of these coins aren't all that recent though.
