What War it will be over in 25 days faster than you can get your coins back from PCGS. We come, they see, they run. it is over
  • I know this thread is done as a joke but let take a serious look at it.

First the war with Iraq Will be done within 60 days, Probally much less then that. In Persian Gulf War I the Iraq army showed they did not have the training or the epquiment to fight a better trained and better equipt army. They ran or surrendered By the 10,000's this is going to happen again. His top of the line troops will fight to a certain point then they will turn on Sadam and his leadership. Then it will be all over with .

Now we turn to North Korea They have the 4 largest army on the planet sounds very much like Iraq used to sound. Yes North Korea will probally invade South. But under the combined airpower of the US Navy and the Air force They will be decimated . You will porbally see a direct reinvasion. the out come will be with North Korea being crushed . This one will take a while probally on the line of 6 to 9 months. But the outcome will be the same. As for North Korea's Nuclear arms. they have them they can hit Japan, South Korea, China, Russia, and probally Alaska. But i dont think they have the reach to hit the main land US. But you never know.

SO there it is my take on it.

I agree, considering who the antagonists are here, should be a very quick war indeed. We just have to finish the job this time and make this megalomaniac a military target and TAKE HIM OUT.
    Joe
  • The missle that north Korea has its their long range is called the tadongII. Its a medium range missle it has been modified to be a long range missle with a ranger of between 800 and 1500 miles. the problem with it is has a tendance to break up on the primary boost phase. That is why i say its unlikly to hit the mainland US.

And believe me there is alot to bomb in North Korea. Way more then you see in the media. You have to remember the sensor the media theirs and ours(when they let them in) You dont see what they have. Target list for North Korea would be something like this, Leadership Miltary and civilan, Industry manufacturing, Ports sea and air ports. Military bases, Nuclear chemical biological plants. Weapons storage . See this list can go on and on and on. Dont think like a civilan when looking for targets . hit anything that can be used for dual purposes either civilan or military.

  • My concern is not the war. Surely we can obliterate the opposition within a matter of days. I am corncern about the aftermath and keeping the peace. If we do not rebuild that country (Iraq) we will surely become the most hated nation on earth. I remember the promised made to Afghanistan and Pakistan. None of which were kept. Indeed, the Germans are in Afghanistan now rebuilding and we are still blocking the import of Pakistani Textiles. Let's face it people, after 20 plus years of despotic rule and 10 plus years of sanctions, Iraq is a mess. It's going to cost billions and billions to rebuild that country. Moreover, since we do not have the backing of France or Russia, I'm afraid we are going to have to foot the bill ourselves. I'm afraid alot more of our sons and daughters will be killed after the war than during it.

I'm curious as to what we mean here by how long it will take for a war with IRAQ to be 'over'. If we mean, how long before we can roll into Baghdad, I agree that shouldn't take to long. If we mean, how long before our soldiers can have a meal at an outdoor cafe without having to worry about getting shot by some guerilla in the building across the street, I'm not convinced that is such as easy matter. 'Victory' & 'winning' are very fluid concepts. I think it is quite arrogant and very foolish to underestimate the resourcefullness of this opponent simply because they do not have the military gear and/or training we do. This is an enemy who has had time to prepare for an invasion, who is fighting on his homeland, and who believes his death is advancing the cause of God. This is one time I truly hope I am wrong about what may be ahead.

  • Personally, I am less concerned with the effects of war on my coin collection than I am with the current financial situation that we are facing. The stock market has only gone down for years and the overall rate of return on personal investment is generally negative when including the very low interest rate environment that we will be in for a good while. Eventually people will realize their expected grand retirements will not be there as the 401Ks and even the corporate defined benefit plans aren't sufficiently funded. You won't be able to eat your coins.

Anyway I wish we would blast the SOBs and get this war over with. image The French and Germans have big oil and love interests in Iraq. Let them rebuild the place.

The war in Iraq will take a long time; it has to last at least until the next presidential election, or Bush has no chance of winning image And ya, those #$%@ French, they helped us gain independence, unlike our new buddies in Turkey, who helped kill Americans in two world wars.
  • Any one who thinks a war in Korea would be over in a few days ought to watch a few newsreels from the last Korean war on the history channel. All those smart bombs and stuff wont do crap against the NKA. Only a bunch of Infantry guys with guns and bullets will do any good and the dead from both sides will be piled and buried with bull dozers. Massive piles of dead people. YUK. If a war breaks out on the Korean pennisula the best coins to have in your collection will be mint state gold in 63 or higher. They will literally go to the moon. The problem facing the leadership in N.Korea currently is that he has just enough nuclear firepower to piss an enemy off, not enough to finish one off. In another 6-12 mos., that won't be the case. BTW - the most sellable commodity N.Korea can manufacture is nuclear weapons. Unlike Iraq, they are indeed a threat to the global community. I think invading Iraq is strategically important because our trading partners and like thinking friends in the international community need a steady and reliable supply of oil, and allowing a leader with a penchant for military rule and action to go unfettered in the region would present a significant economic problem in the near future. Parking troops in Saudi served a dual purpose. It was useful to stage from Saudi, but it also prevented the Al Queda and other fundamentalist groups from gaining control of Saudi, the best friend we have when oil production dips. It was similar to our decision to stage from Pakistan. Obviously, we will insure the oil supply, and obviously, we will attempt to eliminate the risk N.Korea poses. My guess is that it will require military action, and it will take place almost immediately on the heels of the action in Iraq. As for Iraq's post war fate, Iraq was a creation of the Western world, and the Western world will once again divvy it up. We'll do it politely, with some sort of fig leaf masking our aggression, but we will do it regardless of the political cost, because not doing it will be financial suicide. We face a very similar situation in Saudi to the one we faced in Iran prior to the overthrow of the Shah, and we can't afford to be without a presence in the region. What would the world look like if Saudi, Jordan, Iraq, and Iran fell to the fundamentalists, who consider us evil yet have no good weapon to use against us.

The revisionist history channel? doh! MacArthur could have easily won the Korean war, if he had been allowed to do his job (wanted to use nukes). But then, like now, we had a president who only really cared about public opinion and his own political career (party affiliation doesn't matter much). Imagine though... China would be a democracy today, Vietnam never would of happened... anyways. “The only good that can come of war is a quick end” and all our politicians seem to do is prolong them for personal gain. Do you honestly think we couldn't have finished the job in Iraq the first time around? But it must be Greenspan's fault Bush Sr. lost his reelection campaign, couldn't be his own fault, that's for sure. Pass the buck.

Scrub your coins with pine-sol disinfectant and a wire brush, rinse thoroughly in bottled water; Perrier works best, then wrap your coins in plastic sheeting and secure with duct tape, and lastly, bury them at least 20 feet below the surface of Uranus.

  • Astonishing.

DCAM and I agree on something. imageimageimageimage

I've been watching with keen interest how the liberal media have been hyping this whole thing. Now there's a bunch of people out buying duct tape and plastic. (rolling eyes) None of these morons seem to grasp the very real fact that they are dealing with a people that are not only still pissed off from 9/11, but possess more firepower than any other people on earth.

The big difference with these two scenarios is that unlike the cowards that hide in their holes in Afghanistan, these two are identifiable targets. Early prediction? We'll turn Iraq into a parking-lot in 20 days. There will be more footage of their "elite" surrendering to unmanned drones too. LMAO.

    N. Korea? Whack-job, whack-job, whack-job. All the "sabre-rattling" in the world doesn't change the fact that if they launched a nuke against the U.S., not one member nation of NATO (as irrelevant as NATO is) would have a word to say when we retaliated with total annihilation. Even the whack-job Kim Jong-Il isn't that stupid. Well... maybe he is, but he's signing his own (and a whole bunch of his countrymen's) death-warrant if he pushes the button. It's rhetoric, and our leadership recognizes it.

I for one, just wish we'd get on with it. The economy isn't going to turn around until we start kicking some butts that have needed kicking for some time. We know we're going to do it, they know we're going to do it - so DO IT ALREADY!

... stepping down off my soap-box.

  • DanC,

I agree with you completely on this one. Iraq's military wouldn't even be much challenge for the U.S. (as long as we are allowed by our government to fight with all our power). I also believe that N. Korea isn't quite that stupid as to allow all they have built up to be destroyed by getting into a true war with the U.S. More likely, they are just trying to get somethings in negotiations.

I also agree with you about getting it on and soon. The more time we wait doesn't do us any good.

  • I think some of you are giving Iraq too much credit!! WORLD WAR?? Come on....this is going to be like taking candy from a baby almost. I will be surprised if it takes 2 weeks (14 days)...before they stop resisting and the war itself is over. I predict more US soldiers will be killed in an occupied Bagdad (and surrounding area) than during the war itself. There are enough crazy extremists that will snipe...and do suicide bombings, etc. of the forces there to keep peace while the new government is installed, etc. There will be very few troops killed during the bombing and invasion (I hope). I guess the one wild card is if Hussein sets up the scorched earth policy coupled with killing his own people along with the invading troops using some type of WMD. We will see..........very very soon. It will be over within days.

  • FROM MY BROTHER (He got it from a friend in Europe):

A funny thing happened to me yesterday at Camp Bondsteel (Bosnia):

A French army officer walked up to me in the PX, and told me he
thought we (Americans) were a bunch of cowboys and were going to provoke a
war. He said if such a thing happens, we wouldn't be able to count on
    the support of France.

I told him that it didn't surprise me. Since we had come to France's
rescue in World War I, World War II, Vietnam, and the Cold War, and that
your ingratitude and jealousy was due to surface at some point in the near
future anyway. That is why France is a third-rate military power with
a socialist economy with a bunch of f*ggots for soldiers.

I additionally told him that America, being a nation of deeds and
action, not words, would do whatever it had to do, and France's support was only
for show anyway. Just like in ALL NATO exercises, the U.S. would shoulder
85% of the burden, as evidenced by the fact that the French officer
was shopping in the American PX, and not the other way around.

He began to get belligerent at that point, and I told him if he would
like to, I would meet him outside in front of the Burger King and kick his ***
in front of the entire Multi-National Brigade East, thus demonstrating that
even the smallest American had more fight in him than the average Frenchman.

He called me a barbarian cowboy and walked away in a huff.

With allies like these, who needs enemies?

Lt. Col. Mary Beth Johnson, USMC
  • Ok I gave some wrong information in one of the earler post . I misnamed the North Korean missle Its called the tay Po Dung II (spelling) Also I have come to find out that it has a much long reach then I though it can as a fact reach all of the United States. It can do this by over flight of the north pole. This is a very serious threat. More then Iraq.

But there is even more to all of this. There are others in the wings that feel threatned just as much as we do . Japan and North Korea have just as much bad blood in between them as the US and North korea do. North Korea feels Japan is nothing more then a staging base for the Usa. They have said the wouldnt rule out striking Japan. Well to this Japan said they would respond to any attack by North korea with all their Weapons and might. Most would think this isnt much But Japan said in no uncertain terms. That they would not be held to this Post WWII constitution in this case (I dont blame them). What most dont realize is Japan can field a hydrogen Bomb in 10 days, and nuclear bomb in less the 4 days. This is just scarry as hell.

Now dont get the idea this is at the point where its out of hand it far from it at this point. There are more countries in the wings them most see. Russia and China are going to apply a huge amount of pressure on North Korea. China will not get invloved again like the first time, they have to much money tied up with the USA same with Russia. What you will probally see (and I hope it works this way) Russia and China South Korea and the USA will agree to help North Korea rebuild their economy and as an agreement they will want North Korea to avow off Missles and nuclear bombs. Now here is what I see as the catch point North Korea is going to do all the foot draging they can. Its all going to be in the verication. DOvei no provi (spelling) Ronald Regan said this to Gorbevachaf(spellling) means something like this trust but varify.

There would be NO French wine industry if it were not for America.

They do seem to be truly accomplished at that one. Someone told them it was the universal signal for "touchdown"...

I'm reminded of a particular project manager I had to deal with on an SAP implementation. Everyone hated him so much they had to assign another project manager just to deal with the politics. Typical of the French. Something that's already is complex enough to bankrupt some small countries... and they have to make it even harder.

Well... we're getting off into 'bashing of others' which is not politically correct, and will offend the tender sprirts of some of the more liberal readers - so I'll pipe down, and go back to being a lurker. Maybe someday I can afford a coin again. Then... there'll be pictures.
  • IMO you can stick a fork in Iraq, it's done. China will begin exerting pressure on North Korea to
either mellow out or China will change the leadership in North Korea. It is in the best interest of China
to control North Korea. China knows where the money to develope thier economy is coming from and
the much needed dollars are not coming from North Korea. The only reason there is a North and South
Korea is because of China. With out chinese support North Korea ceases to exist.
