I have a 1923 piece dollar that has a sandblasted look to it, can anybody tell me why?

The luster is just subdued from the light toning from how it was stored.This.
That appears to be a nice original coin. Don't clean it......

Welcome to the Forum!
Looks like a nice original Peace Dollar from what can tell. Lighting isn't great, but there does appear to be some luster...
As others have already said... whatever you do, DON'T clean it! Even wiping it can impart oils or residue that will harm the coins surfaces...

@thebeav out of curiosity would this be a conservation opportunity from PCGS or just leave it be?Not worth conserving. Just a common date Peace Dollar.

Just leave it alone as it's so original skinned might as well deem it virginal and this look appeals to collectors of this series.
Step away from that coin!

PCGS conservation service does not remove toning. They won't touch it, don't even think about having it conserved. Can't be done. It's original and that is what collectors want.
