Those look great to me. The current spots that I've filled for the braided hair section of my large cent date set are definitely worse on average with a range of VF-35 to MS-63 slabs.
Be gentle?! I couldn't say a bad word about these 2 if I tried!
The petite head of 1839-43 is probably my favorite type of Large Cent, it's the most... elegant of the designs IMO.
I've been looking for one of these (the petite head type) in between AU55 and MS64, your 1842 is very close to the condition I'm looking for.
It's a beautiful uniform color, though it could use some more red
On the 1840 It's odd how strong the strike is in the middle of the coin and yet so weak around the edges, very interesting pieces!!
Now you need one of each of these with the small dates

That's what I've been debating - assuming it's natural, and I'm leaning toward that it is, that is a scarce and highly desirable condition.
I would love to see that coin in hand!

Yes, that green color is unusual! Not sure about it too. The weak strike from later die emission.
I think this design period is wonderful. I own an 1840 (BN) too. Love it!

Maybe I'm too critical. They are MS-61BN and MS-64BN. I submitted the 1840 myself, and the 1842 was already graded.
Over time, I was having difficulty finding the look I wanted, and both of these aren't quite what I was looking for, but I bit the bullet anyways because they were better than the alternatives that I had come across.
Thanks for the inputs, guys.

They look really nice and how old copper coins should look. I'm not big on copper but these are exactly what I would get for color and condition Very nice.

I like 'em both. The '42 is my favorite, but they're both interesting in their own way. If they were mine they'd make the rest of my large cents look like some real turds in comparison.

I like both of them, the 1840 definitely has an interesting but attractive look.

Awesome color to that 1840.

Nice, I love that 42's color.
Au-50, Au55? Just guessing. Great looking examples!

Love the patina on the 1840! That green really helps the eye appeal, imho.

Tougher dates and they're beautiful too! I see what you mean about the "look" on the 1843... subtle mint luster in the devices... very nice.

In my opinion... they're both beautiful.

1840: MS63BN
This is a wild guess:
1842: PR62BN

Love the red look on that 1840
They are both very nice coins... Aesthetically, I prefer the 1842... Cheers, RickO
Green toning that is not PVC is rare on copper. You have something special on the 1840!
