Tonight's Heritage auction brings back a Grant Commemorative w/star with a new blue colorized eye!

I kid you not. This is a real mystery to me.
Please chime in forum guys and gals.
Heritage auction from 2013 here is the Grant w/Star...PCGS MS65.
Sold: $5,875
Tonight same coin sells for $3,360.
Anyone want to venture an opinion?
Oh, and how did Grant get the colorized blue eye??

Looks like there was a little something there even in 2013. You can hardly see it, but it’s there. Good eye!

Damn, you have a great eye!!
Precisely the opposite, in fact!
Nothing is as expensive as free money.
I noticed the blue material at the eye in the first picture... Though it became much more prominent in the later pictures. Whatever it is, it seems to 'grow'... Cheers, RickO
PVC growth.
Got to be that.
Is this coin a candidate for restoration?
Such a low mintage of 4256.
Yeah, that's the only way to do have PCGS fix it with a quick acetone bath.
Also, based on the photos, the coin looks awful for a 65 - looks more like an overdipped, hairlined 61 🤢
man alive, that thing is gonna give me nightmares!
I wonder how that will look in 2000 years.
Out damned spot!
