Guttag Brothers Store Card? Die trial or altered piece? UPDATE

I picked this up this week. It looks like it's a Guttag Brothers store card but it's missing lettering on the obverse and the reverse is uniface. Not sure if it's just an altered piece planed down or some kind of die trial? I don't have it in hand yet. Thoughts?

It's a silver strike (should say "silver" on the edge) which has been machined for possible tentative engraving usage of some sort.

Another question. Were these die struck or cast made. I notice what looks like a seam and raised dots. This slabbed example has it too.
