Maybe someone thought they were cherry picking a doubled die? Looks like machine doubling to me and doesn't match the photo in the C/P's guide for the FS-50-1943d-101.

Something is going on with that piece at the extended arm below the elbow, and at the date. Not sure what it it though.

I think the price is right for a CAC close to 67 half.

    Nothing special about this piece.

Buyer was enamored with the old, blue, prongless slab and the green sticker.

Not the purpose of the OP's post, but would be curious of y'alls thoughts on the strike. The head seems fairly strong - forehead and cap distinction is visible and clear, I can make out a hairline and an ear, the folds of the cap are well-defined. The right facing hand seems fairly weak; there's a break between the forefinger and thumb, but cannot give it credit for much more than that. For the reverse, I cannot make out if it is a smudge on the holder, but the eagle's trailing leg appears poorly defined.

Strike is slightly better than average but nothing great.

That coin has (what must be) the most severe case of die polishing lines in the right obverse field I've ever seen.
Beautiful coin, but that is distracting - but must not affect the grading. Right?

Perhaps the bidder(s) thought it had PL characteristics?

I thought the same thing. Thats what turned me off from it, honestly

The die polishing lines are the slightly abraid lines in the field (e.g., over the date on the obverse)?

Maybe the winner mistakenly added an extra zero to his bid (e.g., $2500 instead of $250).

Would've sold for $241 -- except a nuclear sniper bid it WAY up in the final seconds.
