Why does it look like there's a D on Lincoln's head? Struck through struck fragment along with a lamination? Wouldn't be totally out of line to have a small batch of defective planchets go through the press all at about the same time.

My first thought was lamination also seeing all the small cracks around the area. I'm definitely not an expert in this area tho'.
