1992 Christopher Columbus Connoisseurs proof Set

I have this set. It has 1/10 ounce gold, 1/10 ounce platinum and 1 oz silver proof. There were only 950 sets produced. I have #71 out of 950. This was authorized by the United States Christopher Columbus Quincenternary Jubilee Commission. This set is very rare and I'm not even sure where to start to put a value on it and where I might auction it? or list it? if I wanted to sell it. It really is a very cool set. The problem is I really don't know quite where to start.

Thanks for the picture... I have not seen this set before. Sorry I cannot help with your issue, since I do not sell coins...However, you might try shopping it around to some dealers to get a feel for the price range they offer...which will be lower than their eventual sell price of course... Then make a judgement call on how much you want for it. Cheers, RickO

    Agree.

It's a private issue of medals, not coins (unless it was issued by some micro nation or quasi nation that issues non-circulating legal tender coins.)

As for value, the floor is its billion value. Anything above that is based on what someone is willing to pay.

My guess is that 950 sets was plenty enough to meet demand. ;)

I'm sorry to tell you, but it is essentially bullion.

  • Actually that's what I need to hear. No use spending time following a pipe dream when its better to just cut and run. I'm sure I can get a bit more than bullion but at least my expectations are tempered.

You might get some good money for bullion these days.

The 1992 Columbus U.S, commemorative coins were quite nice, but today they are about as popular as a statue to a Confederate general. I imagine that these pieces sell for a around melt.

I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
